The Durham Ox is a real treat in Ilkeston, offering fantastic food and warm service that makes it a standout spot for a memorable meal.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – think Michelin-level presentation and flavours that leave you wanting more, like those incredible Sunday dinners or fish dishes.
  • The staff are so cheerful, welcoming, and informative; they really make you feel at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a hidden gem with a great atmosphere, perfect for a special meal or just enjoying some top-notch dining without the fuss.
Areas for Improvement
  • The accommodation side seems a bit outdated; one mention of tired rooms that could do with some freshening up, so it might not be ideal for an overnight stay.
  • They don't serve breakfast, which is a shame if you're looking for a full experience, and with only about four days open a week, it can be tricky to catch them at the right time.

Legs Wine Bar in Ilkeston is a charming spot with top-notch drinks, friendly vibes, and great value – it's like finding a cosy corner that feels just right for a pint or a platter.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The drinks are fantastic and incredibly well-priced, like getting a double single malt whiskey for just £4.30 – absolute bargain!
  • The staff are lovely and really attentive, making you feel right at home with their friendly service and quick responses, even when it's busy.
  • It's got a cosy, intimate atmosphere with modern decor, great 70s, 80s, and 90s music, and a welcoming vibe that's perfect for a relaxed catch-up.
  • They offer nice food options too, like platters and prosecco deals for around £18, with a good selection of beers and wines that hit the spot.
  • The place is spotlessly clean and well-run by the owners, who clearly put their heart into it, making it a hidden gem in Ilkeston.
Areas for Improvement
  • There's no website listed, which makes it a bit tricky to check out menus or book ahead online – you might have to just pop in or call.
  • From what I've seen, it doesn't seem to get as busy as it deserves, which could mean it's not always buzzing with energy, though that's a shame because it's so good.

The Latch Lifter is a lively pub with cracking live music and a welcoming vibe, but it's got a few rough edges that keep it from being perfect.
Pros and Cons

  • It's a spacious and cosy spot with balconies and loads of music-themed decor, giving it that warm, inviting feel.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.

  • The food is just passable – nothing special, so if you're after a proper meal, you might want to look elsewhere.
  • The opening hours are a bit hit and miss, with the pub only open a few days a week, which could limit your options for a spontaneous visit.

The Prince of Wales is a cosy little pub in Ilkeston with a friendly feel and some nice entertainment, but it's not without a few niggles like drink service and early closing times.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it feel like a proper local spot where you can relax and chat with friends.
  • Friendly staff who go out of their way to create a great vibe, especially with the current landlady putting in the effort to make it enjoyable.
  • They've got a jukebox and entertainment on most weekends, which adds a fun touch and keeps things lively for a casual night out.
Areas for Improvement
  • There have been complaints about drink measures, like not getting the full spirit in your mixer, which could leave you feeling short-changed.
  • It tends to close a bit early on weekends, which might cut your evening short if you're hoping for a longer session.
  • It doesn't have a huge amount going on to keep you there all night, so it might not be the best for those wanting more variety or excitement.

Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing, especially with live music every night that keeps things lively and fun.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.

Areas for Improvement
  • The website seems to have some issues, as I couldn't access much content, which might make it tricky to check details beforehand.
  • One mention of needing cash for the pool table suggests it might be a cash-only place, so you could end up needing to plan ahead for that.
  • With the operating status listed as closed, there might be occasional confusion about when it's actually open, even though the schedule says it's up and running most evenings.

The Little Acorn is a charming local pub with a warm, welcoming vibe and great grub at affordable prices, though it could do with more beer options to keep everyone happy.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • It's got a lovely atmosphere with a great jukebox and fun events like bingo, perfect for a relaxed evening.

  • They offer nice facilities like a function room, pool table, and a small beer garden, ideal for gatherings or a quick game.
Areas for Improvement
  • The ale selection is a bit disappointing; they've got pumps that aren't in use, so it's mostly bottled options rather than a wide range.

The Stanton Cask

86/100
The Stanton Cask is a delightful little micro pub in Ilkeston, dishing out cracking ales and a friendly atmosphere that leaves you wanting to come back for more.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The ales are absolutely spot on – folks rave about the cask options like the Warrior and their own pale ale, making it a must-visit for beer enthusiasts.
  • You've got a really warm and welcoming atmosphere, with reviews highlighting the friendly service and that homely feel right from the get-go.
  • Live music on some Sundays adds a lovely touch, turning a casual pint into a bit of a night out without the fuss.
  • It's a cosy micro pub with good music playing, perfect for popping in for a quick one and enjoying the vibe at the bottom end of town.
Areas for Improvement
  • With only a handful of reviews out there, it might feel a bit under the radar, so you won't get a massive buzz before heading over.
  • The website's a bit of a letdown with errors, making it tricky to check out more details or the full menu online.
  • Operating hours seem a tad inconsistent from what's listed, mostly around evenings and weekends, so you'd want to double-check to avoid disappointment.
  • As a smaller spot, it might not have the biggest selection or space for larger groups, keeping things intimate but potentially limiting if you're after something bigger.

Rutland Cottage is a cosy Ilkeston pub with a warm welcome and solid drinks, though the food can have its ups and downs.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always making you feel right at home.
  • They've got a cracking selection of real ales, lagers, and ciders that'll please any beer lover.
  • The food is generally good value and served piping hot, with some tasty specials on offer.
  • It's got a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a casual get-together or even events like reunions.
  • Drinks and meals are well-priced, so you won't feel like you're breaking the bank.
Areas for Improvement
  • Some dishes, like the mixed grill, can be a bit tough and dry, which is a shame.
  • It can be quieter than you'd expect, especially at times when you'd hope for a bit more buzz.
  • The car park is on the small side, making it tricky if you're driving over.
  • Service might drag a little if you're in a larger group, so plan accordingly.

The Sixty Six Club in Ilkeston is a cosy bar that's earned a solid 4.3 rating for its friendly service and event-friendly setup, making it a go-to for casual meetups and family outings.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a brilliant spot for events like weddings or tribute acts, with lovely decorations and a welcoming atmosphere that really brings people together.
  • Bar prices are spot on – affordable enough to enjoy a few rounds without breaking the bank.
  • Family-friendly vibes with a secure beer garden and even toys for the little ones, so it's great for a relaxed day out.
  • The setup for games like darts is top-notch, feeling professional and adding a fun element for those casual get-togethers.
Areas for Improvement
  • The entrance is tucked away on the side rather than the front, which might leave you scratching your head when you're trying to find the place.
  • No website or phone number listed, so it's a bit tricky to get the latest info or book ahead if you're planning something special.
  • Reviews have tailed off recently, with the most recent ones dating back a bit, which makes it hard to gauge if things are still as good as they were.
  • Operating hours are mostly in the evenings, so if you're after a spot for a lazy afternoon pint, it might not always fit the bill.

The General Havelock is a welcoming local pub in Ilkeston with a friendly vibe, cheap drinks, and a cosy spot for a pint, though it has its quirks like loud music.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a lovely, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of friendly regulars and that good old British banter that keeps things lively.
  • Drinks are amazingly affordable – you can get a pint for a steal, which is perfect for a casual night out.

  • A decent selection of beers and even options like cider, plus fun extras like a pool table for a bit of entertainment.
Areas for Improvement
  • The music can sometimes be a bit too loud and 'in your face', making it hard to have a proper chat.
  • Food options are pretty limited – they only serve rolls, so if you're after a proper meal, you might be out of luck.
  • The seating around the bar can get in the way, making it a tad tricky to get served when it's busy.

The Observatory is a welcoming Wetherspoons in Ilkeston that's all about great value and friendly service, though it can get a bit sluggish when things pick up.
Pros and Cons
What's Great
  • The staff are always so friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • Prices are spot on for a Wetherspoons – you get a cracking breakfast or a pint without breaking the bank.
  • The food hits the spot, especially that breakfast; it's tasty, full of flavour, and a real winner for a quick bite.

  • Great location in the market square, easy to pop in for a drink, and they've got a good variety of ales on offer.
Areas for Improvement
  • Service can be a bit slow, particularly for drinks, especially when it's busy or you're upstairs.
  • The food is pretty average – it's what you'd expect for the price, but nothing to write home about.
  • It gets quite packed at times, which might make it feel a tad overwhelming if you're after a quiet spot.
