About This Pub

Ah, The Crafty One – what a lovely find it is if you're after a proper pint in a relaxed setting. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really shines with its incredible selection of craft beers and ciders; it's got something for everyone, whether you're into bold IPAs or something a bit more subtle, and the staff go out of their way to help you pick the perfect one. The atmosphere feels just right too – not too rowdy, with a good mix of people from different ages enjoying the comfy seating and that homely pub feel. It's got a stellar 4.7 rating, which isn't surprising given the glowing reviews about the helpful owner and overall good times. On the flip side, though, it's only open four days a week, and the hours can be a bit unpredictable, so planning ahead is a must if you don't want to turn up to a closed door. Plus, without a website, it's not the easiest to stay in the loop. All in all, if you're a beer enthusiast in the area, I'd say it's well worth a visit – just pop in when you can, and you're in for a treat!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on – a fantastic range of craft beers and ciders that caters to all tastes, with some real gems from breweries like Deya and Verdant.
  • The atmosphere is always welcoming and lively, with a nice mix of comfy sofas, tables, and chairs that make it feel like a proper cosy spot to relax.
  • Staff are top-notch; they're friendly, knowledgeable, and always up for chatting or suggesting a brew, which really adds to the experience.
  • It's super easy to get to, especially if you're coming from nearby areas like Derby – the bus drops you right outside, making it a hassle-free visit.
Cons
  • It's only open four days a week, which can be a bit limiting if you're hoping for a spontaneous mid-week pint.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent from what's listed, so you might want to double-check before heading out to avoid disappointment.
  • There's no website or much of an online presence, which makes it tricky to keep up with any changes or get more info in advance.

Visited on Saturday 3rd December 2022 mid afternoon. Finally decided to visit, came from Derby city centre and it's super easy, the bus drops you off virtually at it's door. The place is actually quite large and open with a nice mix of tables and chairs alongside some comfortable sofas and coffee tables. There's a full spectrum of drinks on offer, soft, spirits, ciders, lager etc; however, it's predominantly craft beer. There's 2 cask handpulls alongside 8 keg lines. Excellent range of styles and ABVs from 13% Imperial Stouts to 4% Pale Ales, impressive range of cans and bottles to take away from the likes of Azvex, Northern Monk, Verdant, Vault City etc. Owner was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, the whole place was relaxed and chilled out, we'll definitely be back.

Top quality craft beer bar not to be missed in Ilkeston. A great selection of beers and ciders plus world class Deya & Verdant often available. Invoice me for the Mic by Deya was banging fresh tonight. Can't wait to visit again when down from Newcastle. 5 stars awarded.

Fantastic craft beer bar and bottle shop. The owner is really helpful and is a wealth of knowledge about all the beers he stocks. He was constantly waking over to the beer shelves to help people select their beers. There's a huge selection of breweries and styles, with something for everyone. The tap offerings were also really well done with a few of each style. Took the bus up from Derby and was super easy as it drops you at the front door. Will be back again for sure!
