About This Pub
Ah, The General Havelock – it's one of those classic pubs that just feels like a proper community hub, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, inviting atmosphere where the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and there's always a bit of cheerful banter with the regulars that adds to the fun. The drinks are a real highlight; they're surprisingly affordable, with a good range of beers and even some cider options that won't break the bank, making it spot on for a relaxed evening or catching up with mates. Plus, the beer garden and front seating are great for sunnier days, and if you're up for it, there's a pool table to keep things entertaining. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – the music can crank up a notch too high at times, turning what should be background noise into something a bit overwhelming, which might put a damper on deeper conversations. And if you're peckish, well, the food's limited to just rolls, so you might need to plan ahead for a proper bite. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone after that genuine pub experience in Ilkeston, with its strengths in affordability and friendliness shining through, even if a few tweaks could make it even better.

Cons

The music can sometimes be a bit too loud and 'in your face', making it hard to have a proper chat.

Only been in for drinks but friendly staff and a nice feel about it all. Nice place for a drink. Good healthy banter, lots of friendly regulars.
Great service, great staff and a nice place to have a drink. They only food they serve are rolls.
Been going in here since before I was old enough to drink, that was 35 years ago 😅 It's been through a lot of changes over the years, went in the other Saturday and sat outside on the front.Love it 😅 Bit out of my way now, but great to pop back in and reminisce with some of the lads I was going in there with all those years ago.
Nice pub. Lovely staff. Good choice of beers at amazingly cheap prices. Tidy beer garden and seating to front. Decent music. But often too loud for comfort. Not so much background music as 'in your face' music. Maybe remove the seats around the bar as they prevent anyone actually getting to the bar to get served.
Popped in on the off chance. (Wed night) good priced cider. Asked the lady for Lilleys but had none so she said she would get some. Had a few games of pool and bought 3 pints approx £10. Pool is £1 a game. Cannot comment on food as I didn't have any. Will deffo return.
