About This Pub

Ah, Stansfield Arms—it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a traditional British spot, tucked away near the River Aire with its beams and fireside nooks that make you want to settle in for the afternoon. From what I've gathered, the food steals the show; think mouth-watering pies, fresh seafood, and those Sunday roasts that everyone raves about, all made with real care and served in generous helpings. It's fantastic for families or a casual catch-up, with a sunny terrace that's perfect for warmer days and a cosy interior for when the weather turns. That said, it's not all smooth sailing—some folks have mentioned patchy service, like staff chatting among themselves or being a tad abrupt, which can leave you feeling a bit overlooked. And if you're planning a visit, do book in advance because it fills up quickly, and nobody wants to miss out on those legendary desserts after waiting ages for the mains. Overall, it's a gem worth trying, especially if you're into that mix of history and hearty grub, but go in with realistic expectations for a balanced pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic charm of the place is just wonderful—dating back to 1543, with beamed ceilings and a cosy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
  • The food is absolutely spot on; they serve up delicious pub classics, generous portions, and legendary desserts, plus options for everyone from hearty Sunday roasts to kids' menus.
  • It's a brilliant spot for all sorts of outings, whether you're out for a walk by the River Aire, enjoying a pint on the sunny terrace, or gathering for a family meal—plenty of space inside and out.
  • Staff can be really attentive and polite, as mentioned in several reviews, making for a pleasant experience when things go smoothly.
  • With a solid 4.3 rating from loads of folks, it's clear this pub knows how to deliver a good time, especially for groups and those after quality grub.
Cons
  • Service isn't always consistent; some reviews mention a few staff members being a bit rude or disinterested, which can put a damper on the evening.
  • You might have to wait a while for your food to arrive, as one reviewer noted with their family meal, so it's not ideal if you're in a rush.
  • It's wise to book ahead, especially if you're in a group, since it gets busy and turning up on the spot could leave you disappointed.
  • While the overall vibe is great, there are mixed experiences with the team, so it might not be perfect every visit.

I came here for dinner not long ago the food was lovely and my waiter was absolutely amazing I think her name was Sydney she was very efficient and polite, the other waiters were quite rude and just seemed very uninterested in the work chatting in a group together at the side ignoring customers however the girl that served me and my family was just amazing she had the food out fast and just a great bubbly friendly personality! She definitely needs some praise for her character and effort I will definitely be coming back here again.. thank you for such great service

Came for an impromptu breakfast with friends. 5 adults 2 children on Mother’s Day without booking, happy to cater for us and letting us sit in the bar. Have to say excellent service from the bald chap in the dark blue, very attentive and great with the kids.

Booked a table here as it was on our walking route down the canal. Never been before but great experience - would definitely go back! Really friendly staff, delicious pie, and such a nice interior and outdoor seating area

We went as a group of old friends and had dinner. They have options to suit everyone's taste. Hosts were very courteous and polite. Portion of food is quite generous. The portion of chips they serve with mains is fresh and delicious. The only catch is that you need to book a table in advance.

We had a family meal on Sunday which consisted of 9 people, one a toddler. The table was in the right part of the pub to allow the little one to have some room. Service was excellent although we had to wait quite a while for our food to arrive. Two people had the Sunday roast and said it was excellent. My turbot was well cooked and the smashed potatoes really tasty. Nice atmosphere and nice surroundings, will be back sometime.
