About This Pub
Ah, let me tell you about the Hitching Post – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Idle, Bradford, where you can pop in for a bite or a bevvy and leave feeling right chuffed. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's got that winning mix of old-school charm and a bit of modern flair, making it ideal whether you're nipping in for a family lunch or unwinding with friends over drinks. The food stands out as a real highlight; think generous portions of carvery and pub classics that are fresh, tasty, and just what you fancy after a long day. And don't get me started on the beer garden – it's a brilliant spot for enjoying the outdoors with a cold one in hand when the weather plays ball. The team behind the bar are absolute stars too, always on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly, even when things get hectic. On the downside, it does tend to fill up quickly, so you might have a short wait for your table or that extra side, and some bits like the seasoning can be a touch overpowering if you're not in the mood for it. Plus, if you're hoping for a night that stretches into the wee hours, wrapping up at 11 PM might cut things a bit short. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good laugh and great value, but it's worth planning ahead to make the most of it – I'd say give it a try if you're in the area!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on, with hearty carvery options and classic pub grub that really hits the spot.
-
The staff are brilliant and go the extra mile, making everyone feel welcome and sorting out any little issues with a smile.
-
It's got a fantastic beer garden, perfect for soaking up the sun with a drink and some mates.
-
A cracking selection of drinks, from cask ales and craft beers to cocktails and soft options, so there's something for all tastes.
-
The atmosphere is lively and family-friendly, with regular events and theme nights that keep things fun and engaging.
Cons
-
It can get pretty busy at peak times, which might mean a wait for food or drinks, even if the service is generally efficient.
-
Some might find the flavours a tad over-enthusiastic, like with the mint sauce being a bit heavy-handed in places.
-
Closing at 11 PM feels a smidge early if you're after a proper late-night session, though it's still a cosy spot earlier on.

Came for a midweek carvery, meet was lovely and fresh , plenty of veg to choose from. Was nice to see the pub busy. Would definitely come again
Always love coming here for our Tuesday lunch! Chelsea and Nicola were great and service was brilliant even though it was super busy. Grandma always asks for extra cream and this was it this time! 🤣 thanks as always
We booked for a early tea at 4pm. It was a hot day so it was busy at the bar. We ordered using the app for drinks which arrived quickly.
We them ordered food which came in good time. Our daughter waited a short time for vegetables at the carvery but her cauliflower cheese was worth the wait. Our food was cooked perfectly the chips were fluffy and the chicken was good quality. We are never unhappy with the service or food when we go.
Our visit could have been a disaster from the start, as I had mistakenly booked for 2 adults and forgot the child. The staff were really helpful and were able to get us a table. Food and service were fantastic again. Cannot recommend this place high enough.
Thank you.
Nice comfort food, reasonably priced compared to alot of other places, warm and inviting, backgroud. music at a good level. Over zelous with the mint sauce! Well stocked i guess!
