About This Pub
Ah, the Wishing Well in Kingswood – it's one of those places that really hits the spot if you're after a relaxed family gathering or a quick meal out. From what I've gathered from the reviews and the website, the carvery stands out as a real winner; imagine tucking into tender, slow-cooked meats with fresh veg and a massive Yorkie pud – it's comfort food at its finest and won't break the bank. The staff seem like absolute gems too, always on hand to sort out any needs, whether it's helping with a messy spill or making sure birthday parties go off without a hitch. Plus, with the soft play and beer garden, it's brilliant for families looking to combine a bite with some playtime. On the flip side, though, it can turn into a bit of a madhouse with kids everywhere, which might not suit everyone if you're hoping for a peaceful chat over a pint. I've heard tales of slow service on busier days, like waiting ages for food in a group, and the atmosphere can feel more playground than pub at times. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual outing, especially if you're near Bristol and fancy something straightforward and affordable – just go in with the right expectations, and you'll likely have a great time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The carvery is absolutely spot on – fresh, slow-cooked meats and all the trimmings make for a proper hearty meal that's great value for a family day out.
-
It's super family-friendly with a soft play area and Wacky Warehouse, perfect for keeping the little ones entertained while you relax with a drink.
-
Staff are genuinely helpful and friendly; from what I've heard, they're quick to check if everything's alright and even handle kids' parties with ease.
-
Being part of a leisure park, it's conveniently located near the cinema and some lovely nature spots, making it ideal for a full day of fun.
-
They've got a nice beer garden and facilities like WiFi, so you can unwind outdoors or catch up online without any fuss.
Cons
-
It can get a bit chaotic with kids running around, which might spoil the atmosphere if you're after a quiet pint.
-
Service can be hit or miss – some folks have waited ages for food, especially when it's busy, which is a shame for a place that's meant to be relaxed.
-
Food quality isn't always consistent; while the carvery shines on good days, there have been complaints about portions or delays that leave you disappointed.
-
As it's popular for families, it might not feel as cosy or adult-oriented if you're looking for a traditional pub vibe without the hustle and bustle.

Visited this afternoon with my Grandma for a catch up and meal, had the carvery.
Cory, the Carvery Chef, was helpful, pleasant, and friendly to talk to.
I'd give 5 on "atmosphere" if it weren't for the little monsters running around. I know it's not the staff's fault! I blame the parents!
Other than that, visited before, visited today, will visit again. Thank you, guys! ❤️

Absolutely diabolical service and quality of food today.
Family of 11 booked and one family waited for over an hour and a half to receive our food whilst everyone was waiting to leave as they’d finished.
Asked for a refund for two out of the 3 meals as I had eaten mine with it being a carvery and I could help myself so I didn’t have to wait an hour and a half and was declined on the basis that our daughter ate over half of her meal (see photo where she clearly had barely touched it as it was foul - grey mash, rock hard peas and rock hard pizza!).
Awful service and awful food.
We weren’t the only people to complain, one guy had no steak on his mixed grill and another had no sausages on his all day breakfast.
Avoid!
Always get good service in here, especially for the birthday parties. We've hosted a couple in Wacky now. Great value and kids always have fun! Staff really helpful, thank you!
Me and my family love coming to the wishing well for a carvery, the food is amazing the service is excellent we were repeatedly asked if the food was okay and if we needed anything. Overall 10/10
My daughter and I attended tots club today which runs during term time only between 9am-3pm at a cost of £4 per child. She has had an excellent time, and the staff (Dawn and Dianne) have been so friendly and helpful, assisting with clearing up of a few accidents (sorry!), quickly watching my daughter whilst I popped directly outside to the car to get spare clothes, and help with how to book online for next time we come.
Whilst here I've took advantage of the coffee and cake offer which is £4.99, and a nice selection of cakes to choose from. I've also ordered food from the pub which was very nice and brought direct to my table. It's also very nice to have been dedicated a table, and being solo with children can sometimes lead to you leaving the table - its nice to have the reassurance no one else will sit at it.
The facilities and play equipment are clean and sinks are a good height for little ones to reach to wash their hands.
Overall we've had a great visit and I've booked to come back next week!
