About This Pub

Ah, the Wheatsheaf – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community spot in Great Wyrley, you know? From what I've gathered, the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, with quick service at the bar and smiles all round, which is always a winner when you're out for a bite or a pint. The food stands out too; people rave about the flame-grilled dishes like burgers and steaks, and it's clear from the feedback that it's hearty, delicious pub grub that's well worth the visit. Plus, being family-friendly and dog-friendly means it's versatile for all sorts of get-togethers, and they've got the sports side nailed with live events like the Women's Euros – perfect for settling in with friends over a match. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; a few have had to deal with longer waits for their meals, which could be a bit frustrating if you're trying to stick to a timetable, and that might mean rushing through or missing out on that relaxed feel. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual night out, especially if you're after good value and a bit of excitement, but I'd say it's best to pop in with realistic expectations and maybe book ahead to avoid any potential hiccups – that way, you can focus on enjoying the vibes and the company.

Pros and Cons

  • The food is spot on – think juicy burgers and succulent steaks grilled to perfection, with plenty of positive feedback on how tasty it all is.
  • It's a great spot for families and even your furry friends, being dog-friendly and with a relaxed vibe.
  • They've got loads of sports action on offer, like the Women's Euros or rugby tours, so it's ideal for catching the big games with mates.
  • The pub's inexpensive, which means you can enjoy a solid meal and drinks without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • There can be long waits for food at times, which might throw off your plans if you're on a tight schedule.
  • Some folks have mentioned issues with table timings, like not having enough time to finish up if things run late.
  • It might get a bit crowded during events, so booking ahead could be a must to avoid any hassle.

Arrived on time for our booking, ordered food within 10 minutes and waited nearly an hour to receive our order, we had a time slot that ended at 3:30 and arrived at 2PM if we had honoured the time on the table we would not of had enough time to finish our meal, to be fair nobody asked us to hurry or moved us on although 1 of the waitresses did give a few dirty looks even still we ordered pudding and the lady that delivered it to the table was very pleasant. The steak I ordered medium rare it came very well done I did not enjoy it my partner and daughter shared a platter and they said that tasted like a load of frozen food warmed up and chucked on a plate especially the Mac and cheese that my partner said tasted as though it had came out of a can the beef dripping gravy I had with my steak tasted more like sausage casserole tomatoey even I didn't eat it although the pudding was very nice. We have eaten here loads over the last 7 years or so but will probably go elsewhere next time.

16 of us went for lunch, menu choices sent before the day. Staff lovely, food all came out hot and not much wait for any of us. I enjoyed my steak and ale pie with mash and peas, nice pub food 👍🏻 would go again.
