About This Pub

Ah, The Malt at Landywood – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot, isn't it? From what I've gathered from folks who've been, the food is an absolute standout; you get these generous portions of pub favourites like pizzas baked in their own oven or those traditional Sunday lunches that feel like a proper treat. The place has this cosy, welcoming feel to it, with log fires crackling away in the colder months and a beer garden that's spot on for soaking up the sun when the weather plays ball. The staff are dead helpful too, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. On the downside, it does fill up quickly, so you might find yourself hunting for a table if you don't book in advance, and occasionally, you could be tucked away in the bar instead of the prime spots, which isn't ideal if you're after that full experience. All in all, it's a solid choice for a bite with mates or family, offering great value in the good vibes, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with generous portions that leave you feeling well satisfied – think delicious pizzas from their in-house oven and hearty Sunday roasts.
  • The atmosphere is just lovely, with cosy log fires warming things up in winter and a cracking beer garden to enjoy on sunny summer days.
  • Staff are really friendly and attentive, making every visit feel welcoming and personal.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, from classic pints to inventive cocktails that add a fun twist to your night out.
  • It's a brilliant spot for weekend treats like brunch or family gatherings, offering a mix of traditional pub classics and fresh flavours.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy, so you'll want to book ahead to snag a table and avoid any disappointment.
  • Sometimes you might end up seated in the bar area rather than the main restaurant, which could mean missing out on the best views or a more relaxed setting.
  • Prices are on the moderate side, and while the quality justifies it, it might feel a tad steep for everyday pub grub if you're watching the pennies.

We stopped here without making a reservation on bank holiday Monday. We were lucky to be seated. I would recommend booking in advance. We had a late brunch, it was pouring with rain and The Malt at Landywood was the nearest place to stop and get out of the ☔ rain. I had a lamb kofta with chips and my husband had the Bengal lamb pizza. Both were very nice, I tried some of the pizza and I would highly recommend this. It was different, but very nice. Given four stars, we waited for nearly 25 minutes for dessert after we ate our mains. Otherwise friendly accommodating staff.

Came here for lunch on Sunday and the food was excellent. Good portion sizes and the food tasted great with excellent quality ingredients. You can tell they use good produce here. Good service from the staff with a nice pint of Guinness. The place is kept clean and looks beautiful inside a proper family pub.

Amazing food. Best I’ve had in a long time. It’s definitely worth paying the extra for!! And the portions were a lot bigger than we expected. Staff really friendly too. We had the monkfish, it was delicious. We be returning 100% Would recommend trying the cocktails!

Wow!! After visiting here for the first time we are blown away. Great atmosphere, decor, wine, service. Food was absolutely flawless. We managed to eat starters, roast and shared a pudding. We were so full but it was too tasty not to indulge! This review would go on forever if I went into every single detail but it was FAULTLESS. We can’t wait to return. Yay!

Dropped in around 4pm on a Sunday as looked smart from the outside. Apparently no tables free in the restaurant, but instead a table in the bar. Seemed the difference was you had to order at the bar and no view of the countryside. We were there for around an hour and when leaving the place was standing room only. The bar feels like you're in a corridor and crammed in by a few steps and with tables a few feet back. Tricky place to queue with people trying to get by. Even trickier when the staff seem solely focused on doing drinks for the restaurant. If wasn't for a helpful local. Might still be there now. Told be a wait for food, but 200mile trip back to London we stayed. Ordered 3 pizzas that came in less than 20mins so all good. Might be good to give an indication of what the wait time is, rather than a shrug. Kids said probably up there with the best pizzas they've had. (Why 5 stars) I thought they were a nice gastro pub pizza, but maybe a bit highly priced. Atmosphere was nice, background noise of plenty of conversations and seemed a place for happy locals to meet and eat. Sorta place people take their mom for lunch on her birthday Dog Friendly.
