About This Pub

Ah, the Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Staffordshire. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are top-notch, always greeting you with a smile and making sure you're looked after, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. The drinks selection is spot on, and the food gets rave reviews for being homemade, generous, and surprisingly affordable – think hearty meals that won't break the bank. That beer garden is a lovely touch too, ideal for soaking up the sun with a cold one in hand, and it's great that they welcome dogs, so you can bring the whole family along. On the flip side, I've noticed there can be a wee bit of hassle with the opening hours; the website might say it's shut when it's not, so you'd want to confirm that to avoid any disappointment. Overall, it's a solid spot for a good night out, with plenty of positive vibes from folks who've been there, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area for some no-fuss, enjoyable pub time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks and a menu full of tasty, home-cooked food that's great value for money.
  • The pub has a lovely beer garden, perfect for enjoying a pint when the weather's on your side.
  • It's dog-friendly, which is a real bonus if you're popping in with your furry friend.
  • The atmosphere is warm and homely, with plenty of seating and a traditional village pub vibe that makes it easy to settle in for a chat.
Cons
  • There might be a bit of confusion with the opening times, as the website sometimes says it's closed when it's meant to be open, so it's worth double-checking before heading out.
  • Not everyone has tried the food, so if you're going just for drinks, you might miss out on that side of things, though it sounds like it's worth a go.

Very pleasant and nicely laid out with pleanty of seating, friendly bar staff offering a decent variety of drinks, as for the food, the menu had a good variety of meals all at decent prices. On this occasion we only had drinks so commenting on the food wouldn't be right.

Incredible food! Great value for money! Friendly staff and dog friendly too! We’ve lived in the area for over a year now but have only just got round to visiting and we 100% will be back! Really want to try the Sunday menu too!

John has recently taken over The Royal Oak and I'm so happy as it's our local pub! Always a homely feel inside and a warm welcome from all the staff. 🥰 His menu is simple, yet has everything you need. I am a serious foodie and have eaten at Michelin Starred restaurants and I can tell you now, THIS MAN CAN COOK ! His Ribeye Steak (cooked medium) is amazing! I don't normally eat chips but I tried his and they're really really good! My other half loves his lamb hotpot and cottage pie too! John always makes time to chat to his customers and has that lovely Irish charm 💓 Nice range of beers but please stock a nice Vintage cider as I'm a cider girl 🙏🙏
