About This Pub

Ah, the Welsh Harp in Waltham Abbey is one of those classic spots that really pulls you in with its old-school charm and welcoming feel. From what I've gathered from chats with others, the food stands out as a real highlight – freshly cooked homemade dishes that are packed with flavour, like that nut roast everyone's raving about or a solid Sunday lunch that won't break the bank. The staff seem to go the extra mile, especially if you're navigating things with a wheelchair, making it feel inclusive and thoughtful. It's got that quintessential pub vibe, just a short stroll from the local abbey, which adds to the appeal for a cosy evening. On the downside, it can be a tad frustrating if you're hoping to drop in spontaneously and there's a private bash going on, as one person shared about getting politely but firmly shown the door on New Year's Eve. All in all, it's a solid choice for good grub and a pint with mates, but maybe give them a ring first to avoid any surprises – keeps things balanced and ensures you have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely smashing – think homemade nut roasts and hearty Sunday lunches that are well worth trying.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, especially when it comes to making things accessible for everyone.
  • It has that lovely, traditional pub atmosphere with a charming old-school vibe, perfect for a relaxed catch-up.
  • Meals and drinks are reasonably priced, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly night out.
Cons
  • Entry can sometimes be a bit tricky, like if there's a private event on, which might leave you feeling turned away.
  • There have been moments where it doesn't quite live up to the welcome you'd hope for, based on one experience late at night.

Went there 10 before midnight, and some lady told me I'm not allowed there. I just wanted to have a pint on New Year's Eve. It might have been paid in or private party, but she didn't bother to ask who you are or why you here? In Poland, she would be welcome without problem. I was by myself, not trying to bring an extra 10 people or something.

Absolutely adorable old pub..indeed very old. Sunday lunch was everything one would expect, and very reasonably priced. But the stand out for me was the DISABLED ACCESS..rare even now with diversity. The staff and regulars could not have been more helpful and considerate of my wheelchair bound husband. Truly a lovely experience ! Well done to the very attentive staff and the lovely landlady. Will be visiting again, but this time when the church is nit having a large communion! But the verger was very kind in showing my American nephew around.

One of the best nut roasts I’ve ever had. Would strongly recommend. It’s a proper local country pub inside. Very sweet!
