About This Pub
Ah, the Waggon & Horses – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? I've heard from folks that the beer selection is spot on, with a fantastic range of ales, ciders, and gins that could keep you coming back for more. The staff are generally lovely and chatty, adding to that warm, welcoming atmosphere, especially with the log fire roaring on a chilly evening. They've got all the classic touches too, like traditional games and decent snacks, and it's nice to see they've picked up some CAMRA awards for their efforts. On the flip side, it's a shame about the lack of a beer garden or smoking spot, as that might limit things if you're in the mood for some outdoor sipping. A few people mentioned the seating being a bit hit-and-miss, with some tables that are less than ideal, and the odd less-than-welcoming moment from the landlord. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint or catch-up with mates, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to enjoy what it does brilliantly.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of ales, ciders, and gins is absolutely fantastic – it's one of the best around, making it a real treat for anyone who loves a good pint.
-
The atmosphere is so welcoming, with a cosy log fire in winter and friendly bar staff who are always up for a chat and happy to recommend local spots.
-
It's kept spotlessly clean, with well-maintained fixtures and soft furnishings that make you feel right at home, plus they offer tasty traditional snacks like cobs and pork pies.
-
Loads of great facilities, including a function room, accommodation, and even traditional pub games, plus it's accessible with wheelchair access and near public transport.
-
Dogs are welcome, children can join until 7pm, and they've won some impressive awards from CAMRA, which shows they're doing something right with their brews.
Cons
-
There's no beer garden or proper smoking area, which might disappoint if you're after some fresh air with your drink.
-
Some seating can be a bit uncomfortable or quirky, like those sloping tables, and you might have to shuffle around to find a good spot.
-
The landlord doesn't always come across as the most welcoming, based on a few experiences, which could put a dampener on your visit if you're hoping for a super chatty vibe.

Best pub around for miles. Fantastic selection of ales, ciders and gins. Just a shame there's no beer garden or smoke hut. The sloping table still baffles me after all these years, and the roaring fire in winter adds to it all. Well worth a visit.
Popped for a quick drink and found venue had a cheese tasting event which they have on Wednesdays a free sampling when you buy a drink which is a nice gesture.
We did not find the space comfortable and moved three times to find better seating. Landlord was not the most welcoming of people we felt so overall would not be rushing back to this venue as we have others with better atmospheres and more comfortable. If you like real ales though it's a good choice.
Very good beer. Typical Black Country ales standard
Nice quirky pub
Awsome pub, mix or tiles and carpet, soft furnishings in excellent condition as is the bar and fixtures
Really nice bar staff , so friendly and talkative , helpful about the local area.
Fresh cobs
I love Black Country Ales. Their pubs are clean, welcoming and almost always have excellent beer. Had a cracking pint in here. Barman was lovely and had time for everyone who went to the bar. Only had time for one but would go back without hesitation.
