About This Pub

Ah, Haden Cross – it's one of those pubs that really warms your cockles with its welcoming staff and that cosy feel, especially if you're popping in for a Sunday roast or a pint of ale; I've heard folks rave about how accommodating they are, even for events like wakes, which shows they've got heart. The food's generally spot on for traditional fare, with reasonable prices that won't break the bank, but let's be honest, it's not perfect – you might end up with a meal that's a tad underwhelming, like a burger that's just meat and bun or lamb with a bit too much gristle, and the tables could do with a good wipe-down. Still, with an overall rating hovering around excellent, it's worth a visit if you're in the area; just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a grand time chatting over a drink with mates.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and really welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They serve up some cracking traditional pub grub, like hearty Sunday dinners and good ales that hit the spot.
  • Prices are spot on for what you get – nothing too pricey, so it's great value for a casual outing.
  • The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, with things like a real fire and candles that add a nice touch for special occasions.
Cons
  • Food quality can be a bit hit or miss; some dishes might turn up undercooked or lacking in extras, like a basic burger with no trimmings.
  • Tables aren't always in the best nick – we've heard of sticky and wobbly ones that put a damper on the meal.
  • A few meals haven't been piping hot, which is a shame when you're looking forward to a proper pub feed.
  • There might be the odd bit of gristle or inconsistencies in the food, so it's worth keeping that in mind if you're fussy.

Poor place. Table was sticky and wobbly and the food didn’t exactly make up for it. Ordered a beef burger and it was literally just meat and bun, no cheese or salad. Wasn’t exactly warm either. I’d avoid

We want to the pub on the off chance and was very surprised at how good everything was from a friendly welcome excellent staff and amazing food at reasonable prices. It was that good that we booked up for Sunday lunch there and then and that was brilliant too. Wow what a pub you must visit.

We had our mom's Wake here on 11th December 2024. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. The buffet was great. The real fire and candles made the room very welcoming. Thank you to the staff (sorry, I don't know their names) for making a difficult day easier.

Good traditional pub grub! Good Ales and friendly staff. I had the mixed grill, quite a hearty meal, couldn't eat it all. My steak was slightly undercooked, I didn't make a complaint, but I did point it out to the waitress and she offered us free desserts for all 3 of us, can't grumble at that!
