About This Pub

Ah, the Town Hall Tavern in Stockport – it's one of those pubs that really captures that traditional British vibe, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's got some brilliant little touches, like the murals of Wacky Races that add a fun, quirky element to the place, and the prices are just right for a cheeky pint without emptying your wallet. Most people seem to enjoy it, with a solid average rating showing it's a go-to spot for a relaxed evening. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; if you're not a familiar face, it might feel a bit cliquey, and there have been moans about the beer not being quite up to par – think fizzy drinks or a whiff of chlorine that puts a damper on things. Still, if you're after an genuine, no-frills pub experience, I'd say it's worth checking out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and perhaps stick to the basics.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got a real authentic, old-school charm with quirky murals like those Wacky Races ones that make the place feel unique and fun
  • Prices are spot on for a casual pint – it's inexpensive, so you won't break the bank for a good night out
  • Overall, it's got a solid reputation with a 4.4 rating, and some folks have had lovely visits, popping in for a relaxed drink
Cons
  • It can feel a bit unwelcoming if you're not a regular, like everyone stopping to stare when you walk in
  • No real ale on offer, which might leave you a tad disappointed if that's your thing
  • There are gripes about the beer quality, such as fizzy Guinness, and the place can be warm, smell off, or come across as shabby

Making my first ever visit here. A pub that does not serve real ale, thus Albrecht ordered me a Guinness. A locals pub with interesting murals of Wacky Races. Love the Mutley!

A little shabby but fine for what it is — an old school boozer

It was awful. I thought it was a bikers pub. There was no music on, 4 people inside, and they all stopped and stared at us. We were definitely outsiders! I really wanted to go in there because it's my kind of pub. I love the atmosphere in these places. The Town Hall Taven was a massive disappointment 😞 I've never known a bikers pub to be so quiet and dull. It only got two stars because the beer was OK and the girl behind the bar was OK, not very talkative, but at least she had a smile for us when we walked in.

Very warm in bar, music was very basic, it smelt like chlorine and lines of beer very dirty. My Guinness was fizzy in places it shouldn't be fizzy. Price was good
