About This Pub
Oh, mate, if you're into your ales and ciders, The Petersgate Tap is one of those hidden gems in Stockport that just hits the spot. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are raving about the massive range of craft and cask beers – always fresh and varied, with some real standout options that have even earned it spots in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. The vibe is spot on too; it's got this welcoming crowd and regular events like music nights or tastings that make it feel like a proper community spot, not just a place to grab a drink. And practically speaking, it's dead easy to get to, just a short walk from the train station, with upstairs seating for when you fancy a bit more space. On the flip side, it's not your typical old boozer – more of a sleek, modern setup in what used to be a shop, which might not appeal if you're after that traditional pub charm. Plus, without a website, it's a tad hard to plan ahead, and they do close one day a week, so you might end up disappointed if you turn up on the wrong day. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the niggles!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of ales, ciders, and craft beers is absolutely top-notch – it's a real haven for beer enthusiasts with constantly changing options and even some award-winning brews.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a friendly crowd and fun events like music nights and beer tastings that make every visit feel special.
-
It's conveniently located near the train station, making it easy to pop in for a quick pint after a day out, and there's extra seating upstairs for when it gets busy.
-
They've got that CAMRA Good Beer Guide seal of approval, which means you're in for some seriously good quality drinks every time.
Cons
-
It's more of a modern converted shop than a cosy traditional pub, so if you're after that classic old-school vibe, it might not quite hit the mark.
-
With no website listed, it's a bit tricky to check out the latest events or menu details online before you go.
-
They seem to be closed one day a week, which could be a nuisance if you're planning a visit and it happens to be that day – worth double-checking the hours.

This is my favourite bar in Stockport. If you are an ale fan, this place is a must!
Always a friendly crowd, there are often music nights, beer tastings and other things to keep an eye open for.
Great selection of ales, ciders and a few lagers. Also have bottles and cans to chose from.
Great selection of craft and cask beers, on the shady side of the street mid morning and less than a 10 minute stroll to the 🚂. What more could you ask for?
Outstanding place for cider, great selection, prices and clientele

Smart modernish bar on a retail street in the old bit of Stockport. Probably a converted shop as it’s not got the look of a traditional pub but that matters not as they’ve got Loads of ale on. The one I had was nice. It’s won plenty of awards too. Also has additional seating upstairs. Cracking bar and gets a recommendation from me. You can’t go wrong for a pint in Stockport these days.🍻
Been here a few times. A regular CAMRA Good Beer Guide bar. A two room bar, ground and upstairs. Great range of beers constantly changing. Casta spotted a new brewery for me to tick off. Sureshot, a micro based in Manchester centre. Had a pale ale, The Mayor of Gentleman Town. 5.5%. Very good. One of 6 real ales in sale. The pork pies are also very good.
