About This Pub

Ah, Nelson Commercial in Stockport – it's one of those pubs that feels like a step back in time, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, welcoming vibe where the beer is always top drawer, especially if you're a fan of a good real ale. The staff sound like absolute gems, going out of their way to make you feel at ease, and at inexpensive prices, it's easy on the wallet for a night out with friends. That traditional atmosphere, with its impressive details like the floor tiling, really adds to the experience – it's just the sort of place you'd pop into for a chat and a pint. But, and I hate to say it, there was this nasty incident where things got a bit out of hand and the staff didn't intervene, which is a bit of a downer and makes me think twice about safety. It's described as rough around the edges, which some might love for that authentic feel, but it could be off-putting if you're after somewhere a tad more refined. Overall, if you're up for a classic pub crawl and don't mind the occasional hiccup, it's well worth a visit – just keep your wits about you and enjoy the good bits!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is spot on, with cracking real ales like Timothy Taylor's Landlord that really hit the spot.
  • It's got that authentic traditional pub feel, complete with impressive floor tiling and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, helpful, and always up for a chat, which adds to the overall charm.
  • Prices are dead reasonable, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly pint without skimping on quality.
  • It's open seven days a week, with a cosy vibe that's perfect for a relaxed get-together with mates.
Cons
  • There was an upsetting incident where someone got assaulted and the staff didn't seem to step in, which is a real worry for safety.
  • It can feel a bit rough around the edges, adding to that traditional pub charm but potentially putting some folks off if they're after something more polished.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent in the listings, which might confuse you when planning a visit.

It's a shame the landlady or staff did not see or do anything when my friend was assaulted in the establishment ( 03-05-25 in the pm) I won't be going back.

Only my second ever visit and that was about 35 years ago. Albrecht spotted that they servea real ale. I thus had a good pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord. The floor tiling is impressive. A traditional pub. Well worth the visit. Small rear car park.
