About This Pub
Ah, the Three Cranes – what a gem it is in York! I've got to say, chatting about it feels like sharing a pint with mates over a good laugh. The place really shines with its vibrant energy; picture yourself in a cosy spot where the music's pumping, people are joining in with the songs, and there's this infectious buzz that makes any visit memorable. The staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and quick to pour your drink, even on a packed night. It's got that authentic traditional pub vibe, complete with real ales that hit the spot, and it's wonderfully dog-friendly, which is a nice touch if you're out with your four-legged friend. Plus, during festive times, the decorations add a lovely seasonal flair that makes it even more inviting. On the flip side, though, it's a bit of a shame there's no website or easy way to contact them – you might end up wandering around if you're not sure about the hours, and those do seem a touch muddled from what I've gathered. Also, if you're not into the classic pub scene and prefer something a bit more contemporary, it might not quite tick all your boxes. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed or lively evening; I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in York, as long as you go in with an open mind for that timeless charm.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant – it's lively, with great music that gets everyone singing and dancing, making it a proper fun spot for a night out.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient; you'll never wait long to get served, even when the place is buzzing.
-
It's a welcoming traditional pub with real ales like Ossett Blonde, and they've got that charming olde world feel that's becoming rare these days.
-
Dog-friendly vibes make it ideal if you're popping in with your furry mate, adding to the relaxed and inclusive feel.
-
With a solid 4.4 rating, it's clear folks keep coming back for the smashing service and festive decorations, especially around Christmas.
Cons
-
There's no website or phone number listed, which can make it a bit of a faff to check opening times or get in touch if you need to.
-
The operating hours seem a tad confusing from what I've seen, with some inconsistencies that might leave you scratching your head about when it's actually open.
-
As a traditional pub, it might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern or trendy – it's got that classic charm, but could feel a bit dated to some.

Stopped in for a drink on a night out in York. The atmosphere was amazing with great music and everyone singing along and dancing. Loads of bar staff on so never had to wait long to get served even though the place was filled.
Went to the Three Cranes on the advice of a York resident. We were told it was the best pub with the best atmosphere. They were not wrong, smashing pub and great service.
Visiting York with Ic and Flic to savour the Christmas festivities. This pub sits beside the main run of Christmas cabins next to the Roman Baths pub. This is a traditional two room pub with two real ales. Tetley and Ossett. I had the Ossett Blonde. Very good. Lovely festive decorations.
Didn't eat, just drank. Proper olde world pub. Not many of these left, use them or lose them.
