About This Pub

You know, I had a wander into the Three Brass Monkeys the other week, and it's really shaping up nicely since the new folks took over. The place has this cosy, modern feel with comfortable seating and loads of natural light, making it ideal for a relaxed afternoon or an evening out with mates. The staff are an absolute delight – always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which really adds to the community spirit. They've got a great lineup of drinks at fair prices, and if you're into sports, it's spot on with top-notch coverage that gets the crowd going. Plus, they put on fun events like karaoke or live bands, which can turn an ordinary night into something memorable. On the flip side, I've heard a few grumbles about the beer not always hitting the mark, especially the Guinness, and there was that one instance where the TVs switched channels during a game, which might ruffle a few feathers if you're there for the footy. All in all, it's a solid spot for a pint and a laugh, but it might be worth checking the drinks first to avoid any disappointments. I'd say it's definitely worth popping in for a visit if you're in Whitley Bay – just go with an open mind and enjoy the vibe.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing – there's always something fun going on, like a cheeky chat with the landlord or lively events that make for great memories.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel right at home; they're welcoming and add to that warm, community vibe.
  • A solid selection of drinks at really good prices, including popular brands like Guinness and Heineken, perfect for a casual catch-up.
  • It's been freshly refurbished, so the place is clean, modern, and comfortable with plenty of natural light and good wifi for those who fancy a relaxed pint.
  • Brilliant for sports fans with market-leading coverage on TNT and Sky Sports, and they host events like karaoke or live bands that keep things entertaining.
Cons
  • The beer quality can be a bit hit or miss; some have said the Guinness isn't up to scratch, which is a shame for ale enthusiasts.
  • There might be the odd hiccup with the TVs, like channels changing mid-game, which could spoil the moment during a big match.
  • With only a handful of reviews, it feels like it hasn't quite built up a massive following yet, so you might not know what to expect on a quiet night.

Was initially hesitant to visit due to what the pub was like prior to new ownership, but have been in a fair few times since it's re-opened. There is always something funny going on in there, so the atmosphere has to be 5 *, I once went in and had a great chat with the land lady and her husband who are both really sound people. The staff are all canny too. Not to mention arguably the best Guinness in Whitley.

Enjoy coming here for a drink and it's good for watching the footy. Bit of an issue when one punter asked for the racing to go on, cue every TV changing over mid-kick. But was resolved when it was pointed out to the barstaff eventually. Imagine it happening during a toon match - there'd be a mass walkout.

It's a clean and modern pub, they sometimes have live bands. The beer is a big letdown nowt good and the Guinness is worse than average.

Visited twice during a weekend break in Whitley Bay and really enjoyed both visits. Great choice of drinks and the prices were really good (eg just over £7 for 2 CruzCampos). Welcoming staff and a friendly atmosphere throughout the pub. Can tell it’s recently refurbed too. Recommend the Skittles Jam Jar Cocktails on the 2 for £8! 😆 Overall, a great pub with great prices 👍
