About This Pub

You know, I had a lovely time at Cafe Amsterdam the other week, and I reckon it's one of those hidden gems in Whitley Bay that's worth sharing with mates. The beer selection is just brilliant – they've got this huge range of Dutch brews and porters that are full of character, and it's clear from the buzz around it that folks are really chuffed with the choices. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and dishing out spot-on recommendations, which makes the whole visit feel personal and fun. Pair that with tasty bites like cheese boards and those moreish bitterballen, and you've got a proper relaxing spot to settle in for the evening. On the flip side, the opening times do seem a tad unpredictable, so it's best to have a quick look before heading out, as you don't want to turn up and find it shut. Also, if you're not one for stronger beers, it might come across as a bit intense, and being a smaller place, it could be quiet on off nights. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for a chilled-out catch-up – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the little niggles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of Dutch beers and other drinks, with unique porters and strong brews that make it a must-visit for beer enthusiasts.
  • Friendly and helpful staff who go out of their way to recommend options, making you feel right at home.
  • Lovely, relaxed atmosphere in a snug little spot, perfect for unwinding after a wander around Whitley Bay.
  • Delicious food additions like cheese boards and bitterballen, which add a nice touch to the experience.
Cons
  • The operating hours can seem a bit inconsistent or variable, so it's wise to check in advance to avoid disappointment.
  • It focuses heavily on strong and unique beers, which might be a bit much if you're after something lighter or more mainstream.
  • As a smaller venue with only a moderate number of reviews, it might not be as buzzing or well-known, so it could feel quiet at times.

What a smashing find! Huge range of drinks and we found a couple of porters well worth the visit on their own. Many more to choose from so we’ll have to visit again :) Great service and atmosphere - highly recommended

If you like top quality continental & strong beers then this is the place for you. After having a mooch around Whiltey bay I was on my way back to the metro when I discovered Cafe Amsterdam. It's a perfect little snug where you can plonk yourself down, relax & enjoy a selection of some seriously tremendous schwally's. Will I return for another visit? Mostly definitely yes. Oh.. n it even goes old school with a good ole ootside netty
