About This Pub

Ah, Thomas Rigby's – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of Liverpool, isn't it? Picture yourself stepping into this cosy spot on Dale Street, surrounded by dark wood and that soothing, old-school vibe that just makes you want to settle in for the afternoon. From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, it's got this fantastic atmosphere that's warm and welcoming, perfect for catching up with mates over a pint. The outdoor courtyard is a real gem, especially on a nice day, giving you that bit of fresh air without losing the pub charm. And the drinks? Well, they've got a solid selection of local beers and ales, with some praising the Guinness as top-notch. Plus, it's often a bit more wallet-friendly than the madhouse bars nearby, which is always a win in my book. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few tales of woe about the food – one person was gutted after waiting ages for a disappointing salad, and it seems like the grub isn't always up to scratch, even if the Scouse dish got some high fives. Prices can catch you out too; splashing out £13 for a couple of pints might make you think twice. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after good vibes and drinks, but maybe play it safe and skip the kitchen. I'd say give it a go if you're in the area – it's got that classic pub magic, as long as you manage your expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's a proper traditional English pub with dark wood and a relaxing vibe that makes you feel right at home.
  • They've got a lovely outdoor yard or courtyard for sitting out, perfect for a sunny day in Liverpool.
  • The drink selection is spot on, with local beers and ales, and some reviewers raved about the Guinness.
  • When the food hits the mark, it's brilliant – like that traditional Scouse dish, which sounds gorgeous and home-cooked.
  • It's generally cheaper than some of the busier spots in town, like those on Mathew Street, making it a great value option.
Cons
  • The food can be a real letdown; one person had a shocking experience with a salad that took forever and tasted awful, so maybe stick to drinks.
  • Prices on drinks can sting a bit – £13 for two pints of Guinness feels steep compared to other places.
  • Service might drag, especially with food orders, as it took over an hour in one case, which isn't ideal when you're out for a good time.
  • It's not always consistent; while some love it, others found it just okay, so your visit might vary depending on the day.

Great pub, nice yard outside to sit and good selection of drinks. BUT! DO NOT eat here. Award winning pies???? Who was judging??? First red flag we noted was no-one else was eating despite it being busy. Food then took over an hour and my chicken/bacon caesar salad was the worst food I have ever been served. How anyone can turn a chicken salad into an unhealthy bowl of heavily fried bread and what looked like month old cooked lettuce ( the few bits there were) covered in slimy fatty dressing topped with tons of cheap bacon flavoured bits…. unimaginable! But the chef here did it!! Who ever they are needs sacking ! The pie! Steak and ale? More like pedigree and water! …. Come on! You can not be for real!!!

First visit on our recent mini pub tour in Liverpool & probably the only one lol, the pub itself has lots of character & was starting to get busy on a Saturday afternoon BUT 2 pints of guiness was £13.00 & the most expensive pint so far on our visits into Liverpool ! the guiness itself was good & the bar staff pleasant to engage with ( as I enquired about the price of our round) but we felt it was a little over the top....😟

What’s fantastic experience. A good old traditional English pub serving home cooked food and local beers and ales. The atmosphere is soothing and most things are dark wood giving it a relaxing vibe. I had the traditional Scouse dish with chips which was gorgeous. Cost me £19. And i had one their local ales which was lovely. The barmaid explained how these ales weren’t full of gas and actually offered a sample before buying which was a great gesture
