About This Pub
Ah, The Railway – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a laid-back evening out in Liverpool. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks really rave about the welcoming vibe; it's got that old-school charm with friendly faces behind the bar who make you feel like you're chatting with old pals. The food stands out too – think hearty, home-cooked meals using local ingredients, and at prices that won't leave you shocked when the bill comes. Their Sunday roasts sound like a proper treat, especially if you're after that classic British pub experience without the hefty cost. On the drinks front, there's a cracking range of ales, wines, and more, so whether you're in for a quick pint or a full session, you're sorted. But, to keep it real, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of them running low on menu options during peak times, which might mean settling for your second or third choice if you pop in late. Also, with doors opening around noon, it might not suit early birds. Overall, though, it's a solid spot for good times and great value, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with the flow and you'll likely have a brilliant time.
Pros and Cons
Pros

-
The food's a real winner – fresh, locally sourced dishes at reasonable prices, with highlights like their Sunday roasts that leave you feeling satisfied without breaking the bank.
-
They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, from cask ales and draught beers to wines and cocktails, perfect for a good catch-up with mates.
-
The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, adding to that homely vibe and making every visit a pleasure.
-
Outdoor seating is a lovely touch for those rare sunny days, and they've got fun events like Fizz Friday or Grill Night to keep things lively.
Cons
-
They sometimes run out of menu items, especially during busier times or mid-week, which can be a bit disappointing if you're set on something specific.
-
Opening hours kick off around midday most days, so it's not ideal if you're after a early morning pint or breakfast spot.

Recent Reviews
The Railway didn't live up to the great reviews for us, but we probably visited at the wrong time.
Value for money was excellent; I couldn't fault the prices, but by dinner time on a Monday, they'd run out of a lot of the menu, which was fine. Went for my third choice which was salt and pepper chips, and it was just okay. It didn't really have a whole lot of flavour without being drowned in the sweet chilli sauce.
Service was fine; it was really quick, but not particularly warm or hospitable. The staff seemed like they didn't really want to be there, to be honest. I understand Mondays might be slow, but we felt quite let down by this place after reading such good reviews.
I wouldn't go here again outside of a weekend.
20 April 2025: Highly recommended. Excellent Guinness (£4.85). Seating also outside.
One of Liverpool oldest pubs, we're you can go for a drink and food.
You just feel at home in the ambience of the place. We're conversation flows and good times can be had.
The pub has character, helped by the freindly staff and lovely homely tasting food with a good variety of ales and cocktails, spirits.
What's not to like!
We were visiting from the states and came in to try their Sunday roast. My fiancé spent his first eight years growing up in England and wanted to have the roast experience again; he said this was the best meal of the trip! I can’t believe the amount of food we got for the price. This place was definitely a highlight of our trip.
We enjoyed this pub. Very old school interior and friendly staff. We both had G&Ts and the toilets were clean. I've read the food here is very good.
