About This Pub

You know, I had a cracking time at The Denbigh Castle the other week, and it's one of those pubs that just gets it right for a good old chinwag over a pint. The staff are absolute stars, always up for a chat and knowing their stuff about the drinks menu, which is packed with everything from local brews to European beers – it's like they've thought of all the bases. I love the quirky history vibe too; it's got these old artefacts and stories from way back, making it feel proper authentic without being stuffy. It's spot on for groups or events, with space downstairs and even a bit of outdoor seating if the weather's playing ball. On the flip side, it's a shame they don't do food in-house – you end up ordering from the neighbour and waiting a bit, which isn't ideal if you're starving. And it's hidden away on a side street, so it might take a minute to track down if you're new to the area. Still, all in all, it's a top spot for a relaxed night out in Liverpool, and I'd say it's well worth a visit for the atmosphere and service alone.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, including cask ales, craft beers, German lagers, and even a vegan wine list – perfect for those who like variety.
  • The pub has a real historical charm with quirky artefacts and pictures, plus it's in a tucked-away spot in Liverpool city centre that's full of character.
  • It's great for functions and events, with rooms upstairs and downstairs, and you can even enjoy outdoor drinking on the pavement.
  • The atmosphere is lively and traditional, ideal for a relaxed catch-up or watching sport, and it's conveniently located near other city spots.
Cons
  • They don't serve food on-site, so you'll have to order from the place next door and have it brought over, which might not suit everyone.
  • It can be a bit tricky to find if you're not familiar with the area, tucked away on a quiet side street.
  • The opening hours wrap up a tad early on some days, like by 11pm on Sundays through Wednesdays, which might cut short your evening plans.

A real pub with staff that have terrific customer service ethic. Food you pay for and order from outlet next door, Castro’s, the food being delivered to you in the Denbigh Castle Pub. Great symbiotic relationship benefiting customers. Highly recommended!

Very good Liverpool pub on a quiet side road off Dale Street. Four cask beers - and one cider - on handpump when I visited. Outdoor drinking on the pavement at the front. Friendly and helpful staff. The pub has rooms both upstairs and downstairs for functions and events.

It's well hidden in Hackins Hey just off Dale street. I've not been here for many years. I'd heard that it's been refurbished recently. The interior now looks completely different. The bar has a good range of beers and ales and a good selection of European beers. Vast improvement on the old pub.
