About This Pub

Ah, The White Horse Inn – it's one of those places that feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in Corton near Lowestoft, where you can pop in for a pint or settle in for a full meal. From what I've gathered from chats with others, the grub is often spot on, with fresh, homemade dishes inspired by different cultures and made from the best local ingredients – think hearty plates that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. The outside area is a real winner, especially on a sunny day by the East Coast, and they've got fun extras like a playground for the nippers and events such as live music or BBQs that keep things lively. The team behind the bar and in the kitchen are usually dead helpful and cheerful, which makes for a nice, relaxed vibe. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; a few people have had a rough time with slow service or long waits for food, and those flies outdoors can be a right nuisance on warmer days, potentially spoiling an otherwise pleasant outing. Overall, with a solid rating from the crowd, it's worth giving it a try if you're in the area – just maybe plan for a quieter visit to avoid any hitches and enjoy the best of what it has to offer.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is fresh and hearty, with a great selection of local beers, wines, and spirits that really hit the spot.
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and go the extra mile to make you feel at home, especially when sorting out seating or handling special requests.
  • They've got a fantastic outside area that's perfect for soaking up the East Coast weather, and there's even a playground to keep the kids entertained while you relax.
  • It's buzzing with events like live country and western music or BBQs, adding a fun vibe to the place and making it more than just your average pub.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, even when it's not too busy, which might leave you twiddling your thumbs waiting for your meal.
  • Some folks have mentioned pesky flies, especially outdoors, that can put a damper on things and make enjoying your food a challenge.
  • The food quality isn't always consistent – a few meals have been disappointing or even inedible, based on what I've heard from recent visits.
  • Wait times for food can drag on, particularly if you're hoping for a quick stop rather than a long sit-down affair.

Disappointing Having been for a birthday meal in may which was very good, we decided to go for father's day booked a table for 8 and was the worse meal we have ever had. It was even busy we were the only ones in that part of the restaurant and the bar was quite . Service very slow and not very helpful. The chicken & Ham pie looked like it had been thrown on the plate with a thin piece of pastry across the middle that looked like a sausage roll had been plonked in top and tasteless. The vegetables come and looked rather disgusting, we asked what the black stuff was and was and was told it was it was beetroot and sweet potato mashed together, it resembled a cow pat ! in the same dish was red cabbage next to the beetroot and sweet potato mash, then peas one look at the lack of colour put us off our meal. We told the lady when she come for our plates and was told that there was nothing wrong with vegetable, I'm sorry but I disagree her manner was rather abrupt. She did take of the price of deserts for those who had them, for me I wouldn't eat anything else in there . Definitely won't be going back !

Waited an hour after the order for food to arrive, and the place was full of flies. Get a fly trap put it, they were intolerable killed at least 4 while we were waiting with my flip flop. One meal was acceptable, sirloin steak. Other meal was inedible only ate one part of the meal. This was from the smokehouse menu. The ribs were so dry and overcooked. I am a keen meat eater and am not usually put off by a little over cooking. However, this was a whole new level that couldn't even cut through with a steak knife. The young waitress asked if it was OK, and I said it was overcooked, and I didn't think I was going to be able to eat it. She returned, saying they would offer a discount on the bill. Fine 🙂 when the bill arrived, it was a £5 discount. I found that a total insult and had to go outside while my husband paid the bill. Would not visit again.

Called in here on 14th February, before we booked into Warrens, for a sandwich. Barry and I shared a ham and tomato sandwich with a basket of chips. Sandwich was more than enough for 2 and delicious as were the chips. Chardonnay not so good at 11%😧. Lisa, who served us, was great, very pleasant. Pub clean but interior very plain, reminded me of a working man’s club. I understand that they have not been there very long so, hopefully, the interior will get more welcoming. Parking was good and nice seating area outside for when the weather improves. They have a 5⭐️hygiene rating🤗

A really lovely Christmas Lunch, we went for the 3 courses and more than enough to stretch your waistband but not your purse. Service was perfect and we were well looked after. Food was high quality and delicious, (we ate the starters before I thought about a picture so sorry for that) but more than enough to share (we were a party of 3). The mustard leek crumble was a nice addition as well, worked well with the flavours of the Turkey. New decor was very chic and gave a nice vibe to the restaurant area added with some delicious home cooked food. If also highly recommended Rudolph Rudolph Ale. I don’t mind ales but this one is yum! One very full but very happy diner! Happy Christmas 🎄

The ladies working here were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They arranged seating outside for us in the marque and even when it turned from glorious sunshine into pouring rain they still came out to ask if we needed anything else and to bring and take plates. The food was delicious and the portion sizes extremely generous. The pub was clean and tidy and there was a nice play area outside for the children to play in . ( which they loved) We would definitely reccomended and would return again
