About This Pub

Ah, you know, if you're after a proper pub escape near Harrogate, The Wellington Inn in Darley is one of those places that just feels right in the heart of the countryside. From the reviews I've seen, the food stands out as a real winner – think freshly updated menus with delicious mains and a solid selection of ales that pair perfectly with a lazy afternoon. The team there often goes the extra mile to make you feel at home, and it's brilliant for popping in with the dog after a ramble, or even staying over in their comfy rooms for a proper break. That said, it's not all roses; a few folks have mentioned the drinks being a tad steep, which could put a dent in your plans for a few rounds, and there are occasional slip-ups with things like bathroom upkeep that might leave you wishing for a deeper clean. All in all, it's a gem for good times and great scenery, but like any spot, it's got its quirks – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, just go in with your eyes open for a balanced experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with hearty options like steak pie and fish and chips that really hit the spot after a good walk.
  • Staff are generally friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
  • The views across Nidderdale in the Yorkshire Dales are stunning – it's such a peaceful spot to unwind.
  • Rooms are comfortable and clean, perfect for a relaxing overnight stay, whether you're on your own or with family.
  • It's dog-friendly and has great breakfasts, plus plenty of parking, which makes it ideal for a day out exploring.
Cons
  • Drinks can be a bit pricey, like splashing out £12.50 for two pints, which might catch you off guard.
  • There have been a few grumbles about the bathrooms not being as spotless as they could be, with some mould and mildew issues.
  • Not all the staff seem as warm and engaging, based on a couple of experiences shared.

We’ve stayed here several times and it has always been superb. The food and welcome are always hearty. The menu has been recently updated and is excellent. A talented and attentive team work here serving excellent food and beverage. The views across Nidderdale are fantastic and the hotel facilities in terms of rooms, parking and local attractions are second to none. I wholeheartedly recommend.

Not usually one for a negative review but here goes… Arrived and bought two pints from the bar (bit pricey at £12.50). Asked for a food menu to view outside where we had sat with the dog after walking on for lunch. We were provided with the menus and were asked to order at the bar when ready. We had barely taken the froth of our beers before returning to order where we were informed the kitchen had now closed. This was probably worth mentioning when providing the menus at 13:55 that food stops at 14:00. Advertising food service times would also be beneficial. Left feeling very disappointed with no apology. Real shame because based on other reviews and seeing the menu, the food sounded excellent.

We visited for lunch after a walk around Brimham rocks. The food was top quality served by polite efficient staff. It was a lovely birthday lunch for a lady who'd travelled from Australia for the weekend. The steak pie and fish and chips were top drawer and a good selection of ale, with a pint from Timothy Taylors.

We were greeted by one friendly staff at the reception (though the other 2 ladies were a little luke warm) . The rooms were cosy and clean, however the bathroom and shower could be cleaned better. There were molds n mildew between the tiles. Breakfast was great, the lady was friendly and helpful. Very peaceful and quiet! Perfect for a relaxing night rest after long hours of drive. Brimham Rocks is a few mins drive from this inn. We had a fantastic stay.
