About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Nelson Inn – it's one of those places that just hits the spot every time. From what I've gathered from folks who've been there, the food is a standout; they're all about fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, cooked up in a way that's modern yet keeps things simple and tasty. I love how they've got heaps of gluten-free choices, which is a real bonus if you're dining with someone who has dietary needs – it means no one feels left out. The atmosphere is just spot on too; imagine sinking into a comfy spot by the fire or nabbing a table with those gorgeous countryside views, all while enjoying a pint of cask ale. The staff really add to the charm, being so approachable and quick to sort you out, whether it's for a quick lunch or a full evening do with their quiz nights or private dining. On the flip side, it can get a bit lively on weekends, so you might need to plan ahead to avoid any waits, and if you're looking for something in the thick of it all, this one's a smidge out of the way. Overall, it's a cracking pub that does the classics proud while throwing in a few surprises, making it well worth a visit for anyone wanting a proper, enjoyable night out.

  • With a solid selection of cask ales and a menu that changes daily with classic British dishes and some global twists, there's always something new to try.
Cons
  • It might get a tad busy during peak times, which could mean a wait for a table if you haven't booked ahead.

My family and I ate here for Father’s Day, with my father being Coeliac it was very important that there were gluten free options available for him and The Nelson Inn far exceeded our expectations, about 90% of their menu is gluten free. My father has never had so many options when eating out since being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease, this made our meal extra special. Please keep offering so many gluten free options for others! My father was also able to pull his own gluten free pint, free of charge having booked a Father’s Day reservation in advance which was a nice touch. The food was excellent, there were a handful of vegetarian options for my husband too. Really nice atmosphere and very clean. We had a great time eating here and would highly recommend a visit, especially if you are gluten free!

Travelling in Yorkshire, we came upon this pub. It was a Sunday, so we decided to have lunch. The staff were friendly. We ordered the roast beef dinner. I have never tasted beef like it. It was heaven. I don't live in the area, but I will definitely be back. The place was light and modern. Staff couldn't do enough for you.

Great atmosphere and stunning view from our table . Could eat inside or out . Friendly staff and quick service . I opted for gf chicken and leek pie and mincemeat Bakewell with apple sorbet. Excellent quality and value. Really succulent pie . Lots of gf choices again. Hubby had fish and chips fresh and crispy batter . He enjoyed the panatonne bread and butter pudding .

What a surprise gem. My sister highly recommended the Nelson Inn and we weren't disappointed. Such delicious meals! It was hard not to try more. Menu changes daily but I'll share what I had. Highly recommend the mushroom miso soup starter. The butternut curry with added lime was delightful. The calamari is the perfect crunch with a great dipping sauce.
