About This Pub

Ah, The Roebuck – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is where it really shines; folks rave about the Sunday roasts, with juicy beef or pork that's cooked to perfection and paired with all the trimmings like beautiful gravy and fresh veg. I mean, if you're after a proper hearty meal without any fuss, this place delivers in spades. The service gets a big thumbs up too – staff are on the ball, getting drinks out quickly and making sure everything runs smoothly, even when it's buzzing. And let's not forget the setting; it's in a lovely part of Otley with a nice terrace for soaking up the fresh air. On the flip side, it can feel a tad out of the way if you're not nearby, so it might not be your go-to for a spontaneous night out. Plus, it's more your classic pub experience rather than anything overly posh, which is charming for some but might leave others wanting a bit more excitement. All in all, if you're up for good, honest grub and a friendly atmosphere, I'd say give it a go – it's a real gem for a laid-back catch-up with friends.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, especially their Sunday roasts and pies – think perfectly cooked pork belly with crackling or a special pie that's just the right mix of hearty and delicious.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are really helpful and quick, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, even on busy days.
  • It's a lovely spot in a beautiful area, with a nice building and an extensive terrace for enjoying a pint or meal outdoors when the weather's playing ball.
Cons
  • It might be a bit of a trek for folks not local to Otley, so if you're planning a visit, factor in the travel time.
  • While it's a solid pub with great grub, it doesn't go overboard with fancy vibes – it's more traditional, which might not wow everyone looking for something more upscale.

Famous for pies. 2 of us had sunday lunch. I had slow roast pork belly with crackling and black pudding Amy had the special pie. All the mains were fantastic, not overly sophistocated but really well cooked and balance.

We thought we'd try the Roebuck for Sunday lunch. It's a bit of a trek for us to get there but!! It's basically a pub which offers food, nice building from the outside with an extensive uncovered terrace to the rear. We couldn't get in until 17:00 but when we got there, there was plenty of room. We ate in the orangery which seemed to reflect the noise downwards. Quite an extensive menu, we chose traditional Sunday lunch, I had beef and my wife had chicken. Two starters, salmon fishcake and Roebuck prawn cocktail with pink gin marie rose sauce. Salmon fishcake good but my prawn cocktail not so good, I don't know why I chose it really. Roast beef and chicken ok, nothing special and priced at £20. However, there are lots of pubs serving really good traditional Sunday lunch nowadays, it's just finding them. If you fancy a trip out, you might want to try it. Would we return? Probably not.

Booked in for 2pm on a Sunday, very busy however seated straight away, staff were very helpful and took our drinks order within 5 minutes of arrival, then shortly after drinks placed our food order. Food came out very quickly and piping hot, fresh and very tasty, the garlic mushrooms were lovely, we had 2 Roast Beef dinners and a Scampi, all great size portions, everything was fresh and piping hot and look amazing on the plate. We would highly recommend to anyone travelling or passing by to call in and try, best to book though as it is very busy.

Our first visit here, outstanding food and excellent service. Opted for the Sunday roast, one chicken and one beef. The meal came with all the trimmings and a beautiful gravy; everything was cooked to perfection. Easily one of the best (if not THE best) roasts in the area. Highly recommended.
