About This Pub
Ah, The Yew Tree Inn – it's one of those spots that just warms your heart when you step inside, with its lovely country-style charm and that incredible carvery that's become a bit of a local legend. I mean, the meats are always spot on, freshly roasted and paired with a brilliant array of veg and sauces, and it's such a treat to see they cater for dogs too with their affordable doggy carvery – makes it feel inclusive and fun. The team behind the bar are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure everyone's looked after. But, let's be honest, it does have its downsides; Sundays can turn into a proper scrum, and if you're not prepared for a wait, you might find yourself a bit frustrated. Plus, while the main event is top-notch, some of the trimmings like the parsnips or broccoli haven't always hit the mark in the reviews I've seen, and that queuing system for food can feel a bit clunky. All in all, it's a cracking choice for a relaxed meal with mates, as long as you time it right and keep expectations realistic – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but maybe pop in early to avoid the rush.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The carvery is an absolute highlight, with freshly roasted meats and a fantastic selection of vegetables and trimmings that really hit the spot.
-
The staff are super-friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's wonderfully dog-friendly, offering a cheeky doggy carvery option that's great value and perfect for those out with their four-legged mates.
-
The country-style atmosphere is charming and relaxing, giving it that proper cosy pub feel that's hard to beat.
Cons
-
It can get incredibly busy, especially on Sundays, which might make it tricky to get seated or feel a bit cramped.
-
Service can be a tad slow at times, particularly if they're understaffed, so you might have to wait a bit for your food.
-
Some of the sides, like the vegetables, don't always come out perfectly – think undercooked broccoli or shrivelled parsnips that could do with a bit more care.
-
The way they handle the food service, with queuing from your seat, feels a bit awkward and isn't the quickest, which might disrupt the flow of your visit.

We booked for the carvery today. When we first walked in it was extremely busy but as we’d booked just found our table with our name on it and sat down. We had booked for six people but due to last minute work commitments only 4 of us went, which was lucky as there’s no way 6 of us could have squeezed on that tiny table! We then went to the bar for drinks and had to ask the staff how the carvery worked, as it is quite a small set up you wait for the chef to come and tell your table when it’s your turn to go up. 45 minutes later we went up to the bar to ask if we’d been forgotten about and then an hour later we went up to get our food. We noticed on the table it did say it was booked for another family an hour and a half after our booking! The meat on the carvery was lovely and a generous cut, Yorkshires were nice but all the veg had clearly been rushed and wasn’t cooked properly with broccoli and carrots all being rock hard. Ten minutes prior to our hour and a half being up we were told by staff that the next family for the table had arrived, thankfully we had finished eating but no time for dessert! Staff were all rushed off their feet clearly and not good at communicating with each other as one table sat down still with the previous family’s plates all piled up and this wasn’t cleared for over 15 minutes! Definitely needs more staff and better organisation! Probably won’t be going back
Called in today on off chance, poor lass on her own behind the bar but wasn’t busy fortunately, had the carvery which has a peculiar way of getting your food have to wait in a queue from your seat the chef comes and tells you when he’s ready to cut the meat. Not quick service and the veg wasn’t particularly nice. However plenty of meat and decent cut. Maybe we would call again. Just on a day out.
Needs more staff………….👍🍺
Lovely country style pub. We ordered the Sunday roasts. Fantastic selection of carved meats. The rest of the meal was a let down. The parsnips were shrivelled up, the brocoli was under cooked and the stuffing should be avoided.
Not local to the area so first time visiting the Yew Tree. This is one of those places you find that you never forget.
The carvery was exceptional and everything was cooked perfectly. Doggy carvery was £1.50 which is an absolute steal. It consisted of different meats (cut up) and veg of your choice.
Our desserts were delicious and well presented. Looking forward to returning and trying different ones on the menu.
This was topped with great service which was welcoming and warm. Very glad we decided on the Yew Tree for lunch.
Absolutely gorgeous carvery here on Sundays! The just-roasted meats are accompanied by a fantastic selection of vegetables, trimmings and sauces, and the staff are super-friendly and attentive. Even more excitingly for my dog, they do a Doggy Carvery here! She got her own bowl of meat trimmings and vegetables (and lots of petting). She's now got a firm favourite place for Sunday Lunch!
