About This Pub

Ah, the Wellington Hotel – it's one of those classic pubs that really captures the heart of a small town like Dalton-in-Furness. From what I've gathered, it's a welcoming spot where you can pop in for a refreshing pint at great value prices, and the staff are just brilliant, always making an effort to create a homely feel, like with their seasonal decorations. The atmosphere is spot on for chatting with friends or catching the latest in live sports, and they've got regular entertainment lined up, which adds a nice touch of excitement. On the flip side, though, you might find yourself navigating a crowd of smokers at the door, which can dampen that first step inside, and service isn't always as snappy as it could be, even when the bar's busy. If you're considering the rooms upstairs, they're clean enough but feel a bit outdated with shared bathrooms, so it's probably best for a quick overnight rather than a fancy stay. Overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back night out – just go in with realistic expectations, and you'll likely have a grand time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The prices are spot on – it's an inexpensive spot, perfect for grabbing a pint without breaking the bank.
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and really go the extra mile, like with those fun Halloween decorations that made the place feel welcoming.
  • It's got a great community vibe, with friendly locals and a welcoming atmosphere that's ideal for catching up with mates or watching live sports like football and rugby.
  • They offer regular entertainment, such as live music and karaoke, which keeps things lively and fun.
  • The facilities are generally clean and comfortable, making it a reliable choice for a relaxed evening out.
Cons
  • The entrance can be a bit off-putting with smokers hanging around, which might not give the best first impression when you're heading in.
  • Service can sometimes drag, even with plenty of staff behind the bar – it feels like only a few are actually getting on with serving drinks.
  • If you're thinking of staying overnight, the rooms are a tad dated with communal bathrooms, which might not suit everyone looking for a more modern setup.
  • It seems like things have been quiet lately with no recent reviews in the last six months, so it might not always feel as buzzing as you'd hope.

Visited here for pre-dinner drinks whilst staying locally. Not a good first impression as we had to walk through a gaggle of smokers congregated around the entrance to get in. There were a lot of people behind the bar, but seemingly only one or two actually serving drinks. They had a decent drinks selection available & a couple of gin related offers on the go, of which we partook. Most of the clientele were pretty vocal with their views & expletives, but friendly nonetheless. Overall a decent spot with good prices, but it could be vastly improved by having a dedicated smoking area, to stop the smoke-screen at the entrance, & a few more serving staff, & less hangers on, behind the bar.

First time in the Wellington yesterday. Good atmosphere. Friendly locals with a great sense of humour. Toilets were great. Weekly entertainment on offer, live music and karaoke. Will definitely be back again to see how lively it is in the evenings.

firstly, let me say that the rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, and the staff are very friendly and very helpful. however, we were unaware at time of booking that the rooms are directly above a pub, have communal bathrooms, are rather dated, and the family room we stayed in had old-style single glazed sash windows. sadly this did mean road noise was worse than my youngest daughter could sleep through, although in fairness we didn't hear much from the pub at all. so, a mixed bag, really. can't fault the staff or the service at all, but it does need bringing up to date - and making more family friendly.
