About This Pub
Ah, the Brown Cow Inn – what a gem it is, tucked away in the heart of Dalton-in-Furness near the Lake District. It's got this wonderful old-school charm dating back to 1500, with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The food really stands out; they've nailed that balance of traditional British grub and a bit of global flair, using top-notch local ingredients for dishes like succulent steaks and homemade pies that leave you satisfied. And let's not forget the service – the team there are proper attentive, ensuring your meal goes smoothly and you're never left waiting. Plus, with heated outdoor seating, a good range of ales, and handy extras like parking and dog-friendly policies, it's ideal for a relaxed day out or even a stay in their comfortable accommodation. On the downside, a couple of mates have mentioned their pints weren't as chilled as they'd like, and the food can sometimes be a tad off in terms of temperature or cooking – think veggies that need a bit more time or fish that's overdone. Still, with such a strong overall rating, it's clear the good far outweighs the bad, and I'd say it's well worth popping in for a bite and a chat; just keep those little quirks in mind for the full picture.
Pros and Cons

The food is spot on with delicious home-cooked dishes using fresh local ingredients – think hearty pies and steaks that hit the spot.
-

-
They've got a great selection of ales and drinks, including guest options, plus a heated outdoor area that's perfect for any weather.
-
Plenty of practical perks like easy parking, being dog-friendly, and even accommodation if you're planning a longer stay.
Cons
-
Drinks can sometimes come out not quite as cold as you'd hope, which is a bit of a shame for a refreshing pint.
-
Food might not always arrive piping hot, and there have been a few mentions of dishes being slightly overcooked or undercooked.
-
Little niggles like missing homemade touches on some meals, such as no fresh tartar sauce with the fish and chips.

Outstanding. Service was spot on. Food was great, beautiful setting. The only thing i could pick fault in was the pint wasn't cold but even with that in mind. It was still 5 stars all round
Food was good but potentially could have been a little hotter (this could just be personal preference as I enjoy my food very hot) and came up quickly.
The server was very good. They were attentive and welcoming.
It was easier than I anticipated to park as there is a carpark directly opposite the restaurant and it was plenty big enough and not busy even though we went at dinner time
We stayed at The Chequers Lodge a few feet away and wanted to stay local for dinner. The meal was value for money and really good portion size. My only criticism is, I had the fish and chips, I felt the fish was a little over cooked and no fresh homemade tartar sauce served with it was a negative point. However, my husband had the pie and was really happy with the generous filling and tasty gravy. If you are in the area, we would recommend this pub for food and drinks.
I went for lunch today with two friends , the food was great , I had lamb dinner the lamb was delicious , the only downside was the vegetables needed to be cooked abit more . The service was great . We got looked after and didn’t have to wait too long . I would definitely go back .
