About This Pub

Ah, The Waveney – it's one of those classic pubs that just feels like a proper local hangout, tucked away in Oulton Broad. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute gems, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone feels included, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. The drinks are spot on for the price, and it's brilliant value if you're after something hearty like their carvery or a massive brunch that keeps you going all day. I love how it transforms at night with the pool table and darts, perfect for a group get-together, and that view over the Broads is just the cherry on top for a summer pint outside. On the downside, though, if you're eyeing up the menu, you might end up waiting a fair while for your food, and it's a shame when orders get mixed up, as it can put a dampener on things. Still, with its solid 4.3 rating, it's clear most folks have a great time here – I'd say it's worth a visit for the vibes and drinks, just maybe stick to the quicker options if you're in a rush.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in
  • Drinks are affordably priced, which is a winner for a casual night out with mates
  • It's got a great old-school vibe with darts, pool, and a lively atmosphere that comes alive in the evenings
  • The location is spot on, with lovely views over the Broads and plenty of space for outdoor drinks on a sunny day
  • Value for money is top-notch, especially for meals like the carvery or big brunches that leave you stuffed
Cons
  • Food from the menu can take ages to arrive, sometimes over an hour, which isn't ideal if you're peckish
  • Orders might come out wrong the first time, leading to a bit of back-and-forth that disrupts the fun
  • Service can be inconsistent, so while the staff are generally great, things might not always run smoothly

Lovely carvery but avoid ordering from the menu unless you're willing to wait over an hour. Staff were friendly but the wait for the food, which is wetherspoons standard, was not really acceptable. Food came wrong the first time and had to go back. When it came the second time, the chips had been kept and gone cold.

A summer's beer outside looking over the Broads waters, big inside with nice staff. Plenty of free parking. Lots of local walks. I'll let you know how the food is after they invite me to come try the chefs special 😋
