About This Pub

Oh, what a treat The Waterside is, tucked away near Hollingworth Lake – it's one of those places that just makes you want to linger a bit longer over your meal. I have to say, the staff really shine; they're so friendly and attentive, always greeting you with a smile and making sure everything's just right, which adds to that home-from-home vibe they go on about. The food? Well, it's a proper highlight – think delicious small plates with international twists, plenty of vegan and gluten-free choices, and even hearty steaks that leave you wanting more. It's all made with fresh local produce, and the portions are generous without breaking the bank, especially with their set menus and Saturday brunches. The atmosphere is spot on too, all cosy and relaxed, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or hiring out the cabin for a special do like a wedding or a get-together with pals. But, and I say this honestly as we've all had off days, service can be a tad inconsistent when things get busy – one chap mentioned feeling rushed on Christmas Eve, and there was a bit of a mess with the table not being cleaned properly, which does take the edge off. Still, with most folks raving about their experiences, it's clear this place gets far more right than wrong, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for a laid-back evening out. Just keep an eye on the opening times and maybe avoid peak events if you're after a seamless visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh, locally sourced ingredients with amazing flavours, and they've got brilliant options for vegans, vegetarians, and those with gluten-free needs.
  • It's got such a relaxing and cosy atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates or celebrating special occasions like weddings or hen dos.
  • Great value for money, especially with deals like choosing three small plates for £22 or their bottomless brunch on Saturdays.
  • The venue offers versatile spaces, including a private cabin for hire, which adds a nice touch for groups or events.
Cons
  • Service can sometimes fall short on busier evenings, like feeling a bit rushed or not getting the table cleaned properly straight away.
  • There might be surprises with different menus on special days, such as Christmas Eve, which could lead to a less than ideal experience if you're not prepared.
  • It seems they might not always be open when you'd expect, so it's worth double-checking the hours to avoid disappointment.

Had an incredible evening at The Waterside. After a tough journey with my health and treatments, it meant the world to spend time at my favourite restaurant with one of my closest friends. The food, the atmosphere, and the warmth from Lisa and her amazing team made it such a special experience. The Waterside truly felt like my happy place and a perfect reminder to appreciate the good in life. Can’t wait to come back!

Been back after covid and after they had a fire. The food was Soo much better then I remember before very good portion sizes, amazing flavours and reasonably priced. Loved the gyoza and burger very tasty! Excellent service and very attentive staff. With each course they came and asked if everything was ok and made sure our glasses were never empty. Superb evening

Wasn't aware different menu on Xmas eve. Sat by door, bad start. Table had drink rings and tomato ketchup. Asked waitress to clean table. She cleaned 1 place setting, there were 3 of us. Asked another waitress to clean, pointed ketchup at 2 places on table. More or less asked to order starters as delay in getting food out. Should offer free starter if delay. Garlic bread 10.50 - like a flat bread, not bread like. Bottle of cider 6.75. When came for order, said couple of specials, might not have burgers on ( would have left if this was case). £21 for burger - told no pigs in blankets to go with them....lamb shank smallest ever seen £30. Booked at 6pm, food served 7.45. Drink order never came had to ask again. Seemed plenty of staff on. We were asked if we could move tables to accommodate someone. Declined. Gave £5 off for one burger. Offered 1 free Sunday lunch for poor service. Had visited once before and never been back, now I know why.

We had our wedding in the cabin and we couldn't have asked for better. The communication and planning prior to the day was great and Lisa and the staff were accommodating with my requests. It was made simple and easy. On the day of our wedding we had nothing to worry about, staff were great and attentive, food was amazing and our guests were impressed with the venue as a whole. Thank you to everyone, especially Kaylee for making our special day one to remember

We hired the cabin for a hen do this weekend and paid per head for food and wine, and what an experience! Absolutely amazing service and incredible food! Would highly recommend the cabin to anyone looking for a small party! The staff were so helpful and attentive all day! Thank you so much xx
