About This Pub
Oh, The Village Maid is one of those hidden gems in Lound that just feels like a proper cosy escape, doesn't it? I mean, picture yourself overlooking a duck pond in this quaint little village, tucking into hearty pub classics with a fresh twist – things like that delicious slow-cooked belly pork or a massive Sunday roast with loads of veg and options to suit everyone. It's all made with local seasonal produce, which really shines through, and with deals like 50% off mains midweek, it's an absolute bargain for a treat. The staff are lovely too, always on hand to make sure you're sorted, and it's brilliant that they welcome dogs, as long as you plan ahead. That said, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few tales of dishes falling flat, like a tasteless lamb Ragu or an over-salted burger that didn't quite hit the mark, and some might find the team checking in a tad too often when you're trying to enjoy your meal. Still, with such a high rating overall, it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with an open mind and maybe skip the specials if you're feeling cautious. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening out with mates.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is spot on with generous portions and a modern twist on pub classics, using the best local seasonal produce – that slow-cooked belly pork and Sunday roasts are absolute winners.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home without being over the top most of the time.
-
Fantastic value with deals like 50% off mains on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, which makes it a brilliant spot for a budget-friendly meal.
-
It's got a lovely, cosy atmosphere in a picturesque village setting, perfect for relaxing after a countryside walk.
-
Dog-friendly vibe is a real plus, as long as you book ahead to secure space.
Cons
-
Food quality can be hit or miss; some dishes like the lamb Ragu might turn out bland or underwhelming compared to the price.
-
The specials, such as that pastrami burger, could be over-salted or not quite live up to expectations.
-
Staff might check in a bit too frequently, which can feel intrusive if you're just wanting a quiet chat.
-
It has a moderate price level, but a few have mentioned it doesn't always match the experience, especially if things aren't spot on.

Slow cooked belly pork and chorizo with spring onion mash and cabbage it's was delicious and well worth the money. The staff are very friendly and attentive but not over powering, the local draft ale was well kept. If your passing it's well worth a visit I highly recommend it.
Lovely looking pub. The food did not reflect the price. The lamb Ragu was tasteless. Was expecting a rich tomato based sauce and taste. The specials burger with Pastrami was over salted. The Steak and Ale Pie was lovely.
I do not like staff to keep coming over to ask if everything is OK, but they didn't come over once to see if we needed any more drinks. I got the feeling our custom wasn't particularly wanted. I had heard lots of good things about this place, maybe it was just us.
Monday night treat after a day of Christmas shopping. We are booked a 6:15 and on arrival
The pub was already packed. Must be the 50% off mains deal. We were well looked after and the food was great. I had the fish and chips which as you can see was huge and excellent. So the bill for 2 came to less than £25 for 2 mains and 4 soft drinks. Deal or no deal we
Will be back
Fantastic Sunday roast, honestly one of the best I've had, lots of veg, good choice of options, generous portion and reasonably priced. Excellent pudding too, and 3 cask ales to choose from. Staff were lovely and very accommodating of our 2 month old baby. Would come again.
Was highly recommended by many people, so decided to bring a friend and try it out.
Great service and plenty of parking for customers, lovely atmosphere and attention to detail throughout with whole restaurant. I got the chicken in the bucket, large portion and delicious! my friend wasn't 100% on his village burger but still ate it all, after tells me he doesn't like mushrooms. Overall lovely evening. would recommend to anyone who hasn't been before! :)
