About This Pub

Ah, Dukes Head in Somerleyton – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper gem in the countryside, doesn't it? From what I've gathered, the food is a real highlight; folks are going on about their fresh, seasonal menus and those Sunday roasts that sound like they'd make your day, with spot-on roasties and gravy that pairs perfectly with a good chat over drinks. The atmosphere is lovely and cosy, especially with that wood burner warming things up on a nippy evening, and if you're into live music or a quiz night, they've got plenty lined up to keep the energy buzzing. The team there seems genuinely welcoming, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal or even a special occasion like a birthday bash. On the flip side, it's a shame about the occasional slip with the food – one person mentioned a burnt dish with a funny mark, which is enough to make you think twice, but it does seem like that's not the norm given the high ratings. All in all, if you're in the area, I'd say it's worth a visit for that homely feel and the beer garden on a nice day, just keep an eye on the reviews for the latest scoop to ensure you're in for a winner.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, especially their Sunday roasts – I've heard they're packed with flavour and use fresh, seasonal ingredients, making every bite feel like a proper treat.
  • The staff are so warm and welcoming; they really make you feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quick meal or celebrating something special.
  • It's a cosy little spot with a wood burner for those chilly evenings, and they've got a spacious beer garden that's perfect for enjoying a pint on a sunny day.
  • They're super dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out for a walk and fancy a stop-off without leaving your furry friend behind.
  • There's always something going on, like quizzes and live music events, which adds a fun vibe and keeps things lively without being overwhelming.
Cons
  • There have been a few slip-ups with food quality, like one instance where it came out burnt or with odd marks, which could put a damper on your visit if you're unlucky.
  • Opening times might vary a bit, especially on Mondays when they only re-open from a certain date, so it's worth double-checking if you're planning a mid-week trip.
  • With a moderate price tag, it might feel a tad steep if the experience doesn't hit the mark, based on that occasional negative feedback.

Me and an old friend came here more than a few times to dine, however, the food we received on one of our visits is the food photographed, also, there looks like a finger mark in the gravy, (ew) not to mention how burnt the food looks, I may come back in the near future, and request that the meal I am paying for, be up to standard, as £60 something for this and a starter with the state of it, is not up to a good food standard as the pictures prove, 1 carrot, 1 piece of broccoli, and where is the meat? and I am sure when other people see these photos they will not want there Sunday dinner to look like that? The cauliflower cheese was burnt also, perhaps I’ll give this restaurant a go in the near future, and politely request I receive the meal I am paying for, so I may eat and leave no crumbs 😊

We booked in on New Year’s Eve and had a great time. The food was really good. The atmosphere was great as was the service. Not far from home so I’m sure we’ll be back.
