About This Pub
Ah, The Tyne Bar, it's one of those places that just sticks with you after a visit. I've popped in a few times, and it's got this warm, inviting vibe that's perfect for catching up with mates over a pint. The live music is what really sets it apart; they're all about free gigs that bring in some talented acts, from bluesy trios to folk sessions, keeping the energy high without breaking the bank. The food's another highlight – think juicy burgers and sharing plates with options for veggies and vegans, all served up at prices that won't leave you shocked. And that beer garden under the bridge? It's an absolute treat on a nice day, with plenty of seating to soak in the sun or enjoy a gig outdoors. But, fair's fair, it does get mobbed at times, and the bar queue can turn into a bit of a chore, especially if you're in a rush for another round. Plus, the stairs up to the toilets might not be everyone's cup of tea, so it's worth noting if you're with someone who needs easier access. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone in Newcastle looking for a good laugh, great tunes, and a bite to eat – just go with the flow and you'll have a brilliant time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The live music scene is absolutely brilliant – free gigs that really get the crowd going, making it a top spot for a fun night out.
-
They've got a cracking selection of food, including gourmet hot dogs, burgers, and plenty of veggie and vegan options, all at reasonable prices.
-
The beer garden is a real gem, especially on a sunny day, with covered seating and a stage that adds to the atmosphere.
-
Staff are always friendly and welcoming, creating that cosy, community feel that's perfect for a relaxed evening.
-
A wide range of local craft beers and drinks keeps things interesting, and it's family-friendly with good choices for kids too.
Cons
-
When it gets busy, the queuing system at the bar can be a right nuisance, turning what should be a quick pint into a bit of a wait.
-
Accessibility is a downside with stairs to the toilets, which might not suit everyone and could make it tricky for those with mobility issues.
-
No dedicated children's menu means you might have to get creative, though the adult options are affordable and work well enough.

Lovely pub/bar. We sat outside- there's a covered area with a stage and lots of seating available. We had the children with us- there is no children's menu but there was lots of choice and really good prices so we were happy to get them adult meals. The younger 3 went for hot dogs and fries- hot dogs were huge and great quality. Eldest went for the Honey Chilli Prawn Bowl which was super fresh; husband had a Cuban Grill Ciabbata, absolutely gorgeous; I chose a Classic Burger- the burger was perfectly cooked and the fries were so moreish. There was a band setting up as we were leaving and if it had just been husband and I we'd have stayed to watch with a few drinks from the extensive bar. Our server was absolutely lovely as well- hopefully we will be back soon!
Food great. The one thing that I can't look past is that when it's busy they don't just let people wait at the bar in conventional fashion. We need to stop normalising single file queues (which often stretch way out of the door at busy times). Bars are designed as such that people stand along the length of it. If I want a drink I shouldn't have to leave the building.
Great bar with a fantastic outdoor space, perfect for sunny days. There is plenty of seating and a good atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the service is quick. Would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a chilled outdoor drinking spot. Five stars!
Their house pale is always the best, but they also bring ales from local breweries. I feel like their Blue moon has a taste.
Great place! Food is excellent, gluten free options are fantastic. Wide range of local beer (including gluten free). Friendly staff, good music, and a family atmosphere. Not great for disabled customers, as toilets are up two sets of stairs and steps at entrance too, but still worth visiting if you can manage too. Recommend highly!
Friendly staff, good food at very reasonable prices. Good selection of draft/cask ale. Bit of a hike to the loo up a tight staircase, but no more so than a Spoons and it had some really interesting posters so was worth the walk. Really busy ... which is a good sign. Definitely a popular place. Interesting to see somewhere so busy on a Saturday afternoon. Great new find for me.
