About This Pub
Ah, The Three Hammers in St Albans – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are really chuffed with the food; imagine tucking into hearty dishes like a cracking steak pie or a beautifully cooked katsu chicken burger, all part of their fixed-price menus that cater to families, veggies, and even a special Sunday spread. The staff come across as genuinely friendly and professional, creating that cosy, welcoming atmosphere with rustic decor and a beer garden that's ideal for a sunny afternoon pint. It's conveniently placed near the motorways and some brilliant spots like the Harry Potter sites, making it a top stop for a refuel. But, let's keep it real, it's not all roses – there've been a few grumbles about dodgy service, like getting the wrong order or food arriving cold, and that parking fine story is a right nuisance; you'd want to sort that out before you go. Overall, with a solid 4.0 rating, it's a place I'd recommend for a relaxed get-together, as long as you go in with your eyes open to the minor niggles – after all, it's the good times that stick with you most.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely spot on – think delicious pub classics like steak pie and katsu chicken burgers that leave you wanting more.
-
The staff are so friendly and welcoming; they really make you feel at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's got a lovely, cosy atmosphere with rustic charm, wooden beams, and a sunny beer garden that's perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
-
Great spot for families or groups, with options like kids' menus, vegetarian choices, and even a special Sunday menu to suit everyone.
-
Handy location near the M25 and local attractions like Verulamium Park, plus free parking on site makes it easy to pop in after a day out.
Cons
-
Parking can be a bit of a headache – one person got hit with a hefty fine, so it's worth double-checking the rules to avoid any surprises.
-
Service isn't always consistent; there have been tales of meals coming out wrong, like a rare steak when medium was ordered, and food going cold.
-
Some feedback mentions issues with food quality, such as gristly steak or overcooked sides, which might put you off if you're after a flawless meal.
-
It can get pricey for what you get, especially if things don't go smoothly, as one visit cost £64 and left a sour taste.

I & a friend had a super meal here on 5th .June. Today it has been spoiled by receiving a 100 pound parking fine ! Please can you confirm whether or not the parking at the back of the restaurant is a paying one. I am from out of County; it was pouring with rain on that day & my friend is very disabled & all I was concerned about was getting her into the restaurant safely.I was not in a disabled parking bay as she currently isn't a blue badge holder.
I have never been to a restaurant before where I have had to park
Tucked away just off the main street, this charming is a real local treasure. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with a warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and a cozy interior that blends rustic charm with tasteful decor. Think wooden beams, soft lighting, and fresh flowers on the tables – the kind of place that feels like a warm hug after a long day.
I came here with my Parents after a long train journey and we were very satisfied with the standards of everything in the restaurant. I ordered a steak pie and my parents both ordered the hunters chicken. The quality of the food was outstanding and the staff were incredibly kind. We were served by a tall bright young man and I believe his name was Lui. Excellent food, great staff, will definitely come back!
Terrible service, had to find someone to be seated, requested a medium steak which came out rare, waited 15 mins for some mayonnaise by then my food was cold, salt was damp and had rust in it. Steak was full of gristle, onions were over cooked. Will not be returning to this establishment, spent £64.00 for terrible food and service
Really nice chill pub to have a drink with a couple of friends! The bartenders are very friendly and professional. Overall the atmosphere of the place is also chilled. Having my second visit here I decided to order some food and they do not disappointed! The katsu chicken burger is beautifully cooked and seasoned. Desserts are also very rich and indulgent! 5 stars!
