About This Pub
Ah, The Gate – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a home away from home, tucked away in Bricket Wood. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's got this lovely, relaxed vibe that's perfect for popping in for a pint or hosting a family do in their spacious garden or heated marquee. The food sounds spot on too; think fresh, hearty dishes with generous portions that won't break the bank, and they've got a great range of drinks to pair with it. The staff really shine through in the feedback – they're warm, welcoming, and make you feel like a regular from the get-go. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; there've been a couple of gripes about service hiccups, like not having enough glasses or waits for orders when it's heaving, especially on busy days like Father's Day. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.4, it seems most folks leave with a smile. If you're heading out for a casual night or a special occasion, I'd say give it a go – just maybe avoid the rush hours to keep things smooth sailing.

We had a 2pm booking on Father’s Day. When we arrived, we ordered drinks. If you wanted another drink, your best way was to bring your glass back to the bar -they haven’t enough glasses🫣
About 10 minutes later, we tried to order food but were told: “We’re not taking any orders for the next 15 minutes — the kitchen is too busy.” When we finally went to order, we were informed that the kitchen was closed because they had run out of food!
Absolutely unacceptable. We ended up having to leave and find another restaurant. Definitely wouldn’t recommend, and we won’t be returning.
Nice pub with a country feel and decent--sized beer garden. The Owners / staff have coped admirably with a change of Landlord during the Pandemic. Menu has varied over the years, but always seems to have something new. Friday afternoon seems to have the best atmosphere.
We recently celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary at the Gate. Every one of our guests from the three year olds to the over eighties had a great time. The buffet was varied and just right for all tastes. Special mention to the staff who were excellent in preparation and in their friendly attitude at the event.
An absolutely delightful pub.
My husband and I frequently visit here and we have never been disappointed.
The staff, although all young are absolutely fantastic and professional. The manager, Gary is warm and welcoming. You can’t ask for more.
The selection of beverages is great and the food is always brilliant.
We particularly love the stoned baked pizzas
My fav is the” Gone truffling” 👌🏼
Overall a fantastic pub with excellent staff.
This is a great pub that serves the local community and, judging by the welcomes and banter between staff and clientele, very much loved and well respected. It's very friendly (people and dogs) and you can expect a warm welcome and top notch food. Portions are generous and well priced. The pizza is delicious, as is the brunch, fish and chips, cauliflower bites, sweet potato fries... I mean I could go on. I've tried a lot of dishes over time and I've never been disappointed, in either taste nor presentation.
They also have a garden and marquee that can be hired for events and they run quiz nights and band nights.
This is a popular pub so book ahead especially if you want to chow down a Sunday roast!
