About This Pub

Ah, The King Harry – it's one of those pubs in St Albans that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From the reviews I've had a look at, the team there really know how to make you feel at home with their friendly service and attentive care, which adds a nice touch to any visit. The food's a real highlight too; think tasty British favourites that hit the spot every time, whether you're tucking into a chicken caesar burger or indulging in some tiramisu for dessert. It's got that warm, homely feel with a fireplace for chillier days and a garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun, plus it's family-friendly and has easy parking, which is always a bonus. On the flip side, though, some tables near the doors can echo with noise, making conversations a bit of a challenge, and if it's a busy Friday lunch, you might end up waiting a little longer for your grub. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint or meal with friends – just keep those little niggles in mind, and you'll have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making every visit feel warm and welcoming, just like chatting with old mates.
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with delicious British classics like fish and chips, beef croquettes, and mouthwatering desserts that leave you wanting more.
  • It has a lovely, homely atmosphere with a cosy indoor fireplace and a great pub garden for enjoying a pint when the sun's out.
  • Plenty of parking makes it easy to pop in, and it's a brilliant spot for a relaxed lunch or family dinner without any fuss.
Cons
  • Some seating areas can get quite noisy, especially near the doors, which might make it tricky to have a proper chat over your meal.
  • There can be a bit of a wait for the food during busy times, so it's worth planning ahead if you're in a rush.

Amber and Napoleon were fabulous - looking after us in an attentive and friendly manner. Food and atmosphere great too. I thoroughly recommend the chicken caesar burger.

Food was good. Pub looked lovely inside. Plenty of parking. My complaint is that we were seated beside glazed full height french doors with entrance/exit to outside dinners directly behind us, and the noise reverb off the glass made it difficult to have a conversation. Felt that the seating suited casual drink and snacks but not full lunch meal. Paid and left in a hurry. Bad seating in restaurants while maximising space leaves me not wanting to return, which is a shame when the venue and food is good. Pick a good table and don't accept seating beside the toilets or entrances.

If you're looking for a cosy spot in St Albans, this charming pub is definitely worth a visit. The decor creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, especially with the indoor fireplace that adds to the snug vibe. There's also a great pub garden for warmer days, making it a lovely place to relax outside. Plus, there’s plenty of parking at the rear, which is always a bonus in St Albans. I went with a friend and we tried a couple of hearty dishes. I had the Buffalo chicken burger with chips, which was delicious – the chicken was perfectly cooked, and the chips were crispy. My friend had the classic sausage and mash, which she really enjoyed. For dessert, the triple chocolate brownie with honeycomb ice cream was a great finish; rich and indulgent, just the way you'd want. They also have a fantastic deal on Tuesdays – a burger and chips from just £16, which is great value for the quality of food you get. On top of that, the staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed our lunch here last Friday. We thought to book a table for an early setting...had a bit of a wait for the food but it was very tasty when it came. The pub was full when we left @1.30pm
