About This Pub

Ah, The Thorn Tree – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Ossett, you know? From what I've gathered, it's got this inviting atmosphere where the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable, and the food really delivers on the classics without emptying your wallet. I love how they've incorporated fresh, local ingredients into their menu, so you're getting proper pub grub that's both satisfying and reasonably priced. Plus, with events like dine and dance nights or those bottomless brunches, it's easy to see why folks keep coming back for a bit of fun and entertainment. On the downside, though, the drinks menu can be a tad puzzling – like when a pint of bitter ends up cheaper than a Coke, it might leave you scratching your head a bit. And while the food's spot on for what it is, it's not going to blow your socks off with anything groundbreaking, so if you're in the mood for something more adventurous, you might need to look elsewhere. All in all, it's a reliable spot for a good time with mates, offering that classic pub experience with a few quirks that keep it real and relatable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is tasty and offers great value for money, with a solid selection of classic pub dishes made from fresh, local ingredients.
  • They've got a lovely outdoor terrace that's perfect for soaking up the fresh air on a nice day.
  • Fun events like live entertainment and bottomless brunches add a real buzz, making it a great spot for celebrations or a casual night out.
  • The overall atmosphere is warm and authentic, with a real sense of pride in the place that shines through.
Cons
  • Drinks prices can be a bit confusing, like finding a pint of bitter cheaper than a soft drink, which might throw you off.
  • The food is enjoyable but nothing out of the ordinary, so if you're after something truly innovative or special, it might not quite hit the mark.
  • It operates only six days a week, which could be a nuisance if you're set on visiting on their closed day.

We went there to celebrate a birthday. Prices were reasonable, considering the economy we're in today. The food was tasty, although nothing special. It certainly wasn't bad. Drinks prices were confusing, as a pint of bitter cost less than a pint of coke; you're expecting £4+ for a drink. However, the service was brilliant. If you want comforting, homely food, I'd recommend going.

Called in as I have recently moved to the area. It was quiet as it was Tuesday around 1pm but the landlady and bar staff were very friendly. I could tell straight away after walking in that a lot of love and pride has gone into the pub and the landlady had high standards. Nice outdoor terrace as well. I returned later on for some food which didn't disappoint. I'm sure I will be visiting again. Highly recommended 👌

Came to Tipsy Tapas and Lady Gaga tribute last night and what a brilliant night it was. The food was amazing and so much too, staff were really friendly and always ready to replenish our drinks. It was definitely one of the best bottomless brunches I've been to and great value for money. Lady Gaga was fantastic and we danced the food off and the night away. Will definitely do another tipsy tapas/brunch. Thanks to all the team.
