About This Pub
Ah, The Theobald Arms – it's one of those unpretentious local pubs that just hits the spot when you're in the mood for a good beer and a chat. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the beer selection is a standout; they've got this ever-changing lineup of cask ales that's consistently praised for being excellent and well-maintained, so if you're into your real ales, you'll feel right at home. The staff are described as charming and attentive, and the overall atmosphere is lively yet welcoming, with locals who make you feel like part of the crowd from the get-go. It's affordably priced too, which means you can pop in for a few without worrying about the tab. On the flip side, though, food isn't always on offer, particularly on weekends, so if you're hoping for a proper meal with your drink, you might end up disappointed and need to head elsewhere. Plus, it's a bit of a walk from the station, and it tends to close up shop earlier in the day, which could cramp your plans if you're aiming for a longer evening. All in all, it's a solid choice for a quick, enjoyable visit in the area – just keep those little drawbacks in mind, and you'll have a cracking time!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely spot on, with a cracking variety of cask ales that are always well-kept and changing regularly – perfect for ale enthusiasts looking for something fresh.
-
The atmosphere is so welcoming and lively, making it feel like a proper local haunt where you can relax and chat with friendly staff and regulars without any fuss.
-
It's an inexpensive spot, so you can enjoy a pint or two without breaking the bank, which is always a bonus for a casual night out.
Cons
-
Food options are a bit limited, especially on weekends when it's not available at all, so you might need to plan ahead if you're after a bite with your drink.
-
It's a short walk from the main train station, which could be a minor inconvenience if you're not up for a stroll or carrying much.
-
The opening hours seem to wrap up earlier than you'd expect for a pub, typically around tea time, so it might not be the best for a late-night session.

The Theobalb Arms is a fantastic pub with a great selection of beers. The atmosphere is always lively and welcoming. And let's not forget the bartender—charming and attentive, making the experience even better. Definitely a place to visit if you're in the area! 🍻
Four ever changing cask, snacks, and comfortably bonquets. Great local boozer
Really nice friendly local pub. Had 4 real ales on, I tried three they were all excellent. Very friendly bar staff and the locals were welcoming. No food on at the weekend, but weekday menu looked good.
Excellent little pub with a very good selection of well kept cask beer. Friendly service and chatty locals. Not many pubs in the area so thankfully I stayed a while and worked my way through the beers. a little walk from the main train station but well worth it. Highly Recommended
Nice old style boozer, 4 cask Ales on and all the other usual beers etc.
Good to get a cask ale while visiting the area.
The bar Lady was pleasant and helpful letting me have a taste of one of the Ales before I made my mind up.
No airs or graces, just a good place to pop in, sit down, relax and enjoy your pint.
Many thanks.
