About This Pub

Ah, The Station House – it's one of those pubs that you want to love, isn't it? Tucked away in Warrington, it's all about that independent vibe, serving up fresh, hearty meals and a good selection of ales that make for a proper get-together with mates. I reckon their community efforts, like running a food bank on the car park, are just brilliant; it's heart-warming to see a place giving back like that, especially in tough times. They're also a hub for local clubs, whether it's rugby folks gathering on Sundays or darts teams having a go on Mondays – it really gives the spot a welcoming, lived-in charm. But, and I hate to say it, things haven't been spot on lately based on what I've heard from recent visits. Some folks have had meals that were a bit of a letdown, like dry chicken burgers that left them chewing away unhappily, and waits that stretched on forever, which isn't ideal when you're after a relaxed pint and bite. Service has slipped up too, with tales of staff not quite getting it right in sticky situations, and the odd messy scene that might put you off. Overall, it's got loads of potential and shines on its good days, but I'd suggest checking it out when it's buzzing positively – maybe give it a go for drinks and that community atmosphere, just keep an eye on the food side to avoid any disappointments.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got a real community heart with that food bank on site – they're doing amazing things to help locals in need, which makes you feel good about popping in.
  • Normally, it's a cracking spot for a mid-week pint and some solid, hearty grub; fresh and warming, just as they promise.
  • They're proudly independent and host all sorts of local clubs and events, like rugby meet-ups and darts nights, giving it a proper neighbourhood feel.
Cons
  • Food quality has been a bit dodgy lately, with complaints about dry meals and dishes that don't live up to expectations, which is a shame for a place that boasts fresh fare.
  • Wait times for food can drag on, making it tricky if you're nipping in for a quick bite during your lunch break or a busy evening.
  • Service has had some off moments, like staff not handling mishaps well or the odd unhygienic scene, which puts a damper on what should be a relaxed visit.

Visit this pub often, normally a great spot for a mid week drink and reasonable food. Unfortunately this week the food served wasn't great, the chicken burger was a small dry chicken breast which I was still trying to chew when the staff member came out and asked if it was OK. I said no, I was expecting more of a burger and it was dry could I swap it for a beef burger. The member of staff took the meal away to be replaced. So far so normal. Shortly after a woman came out brandishing a menu determined to point out I had somehow misread the menu. I said it was the quality as much as the discription. She was rude at best and borderline aggressive. She finally left and when the food came back the original staff member, who seemed embarrassed, said he'd been told to tell me it was the exact same plate. I quickly realised he meant the plate had been kept warm (including the ketchup Id put on the plate) and she wanted to make a point of telling me that for some reason. Couldn't even be bothered to bring it out on a clean plate. Just awful service and I didn't trust how my food had been treated by the woman who had come out to me. He asked if that was OK and I simply said yes as he looked mortified and I didnt want another altercation with the angry woman. We left with the food untouched and our drinks unfinished as it had ruined our evening. A really shame that we won't going here again as I've always enjoyed it before this

We had lunch here regularly for quite a while, as the location was convenient for us. Unfortunately, our experience declined over time. The wait for food was consistently long, which is difficult during a limited lunch break. On top of that, the food quality didn’t quite make up for the delay. The service also often came across as unfriendly and inattentive.

I went, because it's reasonably local and got loads of 5* reviews. I came away wondering why? I was greeted to Kids eating food off plates on the floor in the entrance hall. And walked into what I thought was the pub having been hired out for a kids party? Balloons and half filled plates of cake abandoned on most tables. Only to learn, our reserved table was next to the slot machine! Thankfully we were able to move to a different corner, only to learn you can't set up a tab, and so drinks had to be ordered and paid for at the bar, whilst we looked at the menu, then food ordered and paid for at the bar, then another round at the bar etc 5 sat, 3 ordered starters, 2 starters arrived. Then 4 mains arrived, then finally starter, and eventually final main (as we were finishing) Food was 'typical' pub grub, and whilst nothing wrong with it, was not worthy of the 5* reviews I've read. Overall, I was confused. Is it a kids party place, a family pub, a pub/diner? With so many other options locally, I won't bother returning.

**DO NOT EAT HERE** Just had a completely disgusting experience at this place, we thought it would be a great evening for my birthday meal with the family! Firstly, the young lad dropped a whole pint of beer over my grandad which the staff proceeded to laugh at! We were of course grateful for the free round of drinks that were offered however we do not appreciate being laughed at! Then we waited over an hour for the food to come out, they only served 1-2 plates at a time (we had a table of 8 ) it was easily a 15/20 minute wait between each plate! All the food was also cold when served (my dad went WITHOUT any food!)which is inexcusable for any restaurant, several occasions we went over to the bar to let them know we still had food missing and that it was cold, we asked atleast 3 times! To make matters worse, the staff was unhelpful and dismissive when I brought up the issue, we had asked to speak with whoever is in charge, to be told the assistant manager has gone home! Therefore no one left in charge of the pub! I had managed to get the bar lad to allow me to speak with the assistant manager on the phone, who then had to call the actual Manager (we were told she was on holiday until the 16th…) as hardly ANY of the food was eaten due to the reasons stated (I do have some photos of the left food before the quickly took it away) we politely tried to explain that we were extremely unhappy to be paying for the food we had NOT eaten, and again the staff were dismissive to this, I was shocked when they even threatened to call the police over a simple complaint about the poor service. I was just trying to get the situation addressed, but the staff handled it horribly, the young lad then finally allowed us to pay for just the drinks we had drank, my mum even offered to leave contact details to come back in to have a meeting with the manager when she gets back on the 16th after not being taken up on that offer, we then left feeling so angry and upset, and very bizarrely to then see them taking photo’s of us and our vehicles upon leaving the carpark! Like we were some sort of Criminals! Absolutely not coming back, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Completely unacceptable!

I don’t usually write bad reviews, but I had to this time. We went to this place after seeing a video on their social media—the food looked great in the video, but it was nothing like that in real life. It took 30 minutes for our starters to arrive. We ordered nachos, halloumi fries, and chicken tacos. Despite what they say on social media about everything being made fresh, it was obvious that wasn’t true. The cheese, sour cream, and guacamole were all pre-packaged and processed, and even the jalapeños were from a jar. Everything was bland. The chicken tacos were a big letdown. They were tiny, the chicken was overcooked, and the sauce tasted like it was straight out of a bottle, not freshly made. We also got a salt and pepper chicken burger to share. It was missing half the ingredients listed on the menu, like peppers and chilies, and the chicken was burnt. The chips were cold and tasted reheated. We were supposed to get a katsu dipping sauce, but it never came. We asked two younger staff members (there seems to be a lot of them), and after 15 minutes, we gave up after they told us it was getting reheated. I went to the bar to speak to a manager, but they said no manager was working that day. How can you not have a manager on shift at a bar/restaurant? I do want to praise the slightly older guy in the team who was the only staff member who made sure to rectify my concerns and take my feedback on board whilst working the bar and floor. Overall, a really disappointing experience. Save yourself the hassle and skip this place.
