About This Pub

Ah, The Stag & Lantern – what a lovely little find in Highams Park! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a relaxed pint after a long day. The beers are genuinely excellent; they're all about that real ale and craft scene, with a great variety that's well-kept and reasonably priced, making it a treat for anyone who appreciates a proper brew. The atmosphere is spot on too – it's cosy and welcoming, with staff who make you feel right at home, and it's brilliant for a chat or just unwinding with friends. Plus, being dog-friendly adds a nice touch for us animal lovers. On the flip side, though, the hours are a bit limited, so you might find yourself out of luck on a Monday or needing to wrap up early on Sundays, and the small size means it can get a bit snug when it's busy. Overall, it's a solid choice for a quality pub experience, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area – just plan around those opening times to avoid any disappointments!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on – they've got a fantastic range of real ales, craft beers, and ciders, all kept in top condition, which makes every visit feel special.
  • It's got such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with friendly staff and a cosy, community vibe that's perfect for catching up with mates or making new ones.
  • Being dog-friendly is a real bonus; it's great to pop in with your furry friend and not worry about a thing.
  • They're clearly doing something right with their high ratings and awards, like being named East London and City Pub of the Year – it's a proper hidden gem in Highams Park.
Cons
  • The opening hours can be a bit restrictive, with closures on Mondays and early evenings on Sundays, so it's not ideal if you're after a spontaneous night out.
  • As a micropub, the space is on the smaller side, which means it might feel a tad crowded during peak times, especially if you're looking for a quiet spot.
  • They've had some temporary closures, like that recent one in May, which could be a nuisance if you're planning a visit and don't check ahead.

A wee gem of a place near to the train station. A great selection of cask and craft beers at decent prices - £4.50 odd for a fresh pint of cask ale. A friendly crowd of punters in this intimate and cosy boozer.

It's one of those hidden gems you're not likely to find in London anymore. Friendly staff, great selection of beers and a constant rotation on tap.
