About This Pub

Ah, The Spur, what a gem of a local pub in Cumbernauld! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got this really inviting, cosy atmosphere that makes you feel like you're popping into a mate's front room rather than a bar. The drinks are where it shines brightest – think cracking selections of gins and whiskies at prices that won't break the bank, perfect for those who fancy something a bit special without the hefty cost. Plus, the beer garden is a lovely spot for a sunny afternoon, and it's great that they welcome dogs, making it easier for us to enjoy a pint after a walk. The staff and regulars are super friendly, adding to that community spirit we all love in a good pub. But, let's keep it real, it's not without its quirks – the place is on the smaller side, so it might feel a bit squished on busier nights, and if you're a beer enthusiast looking for loads of ale options, you might be a tad disappointed. The operating hours can be confusing from what's listed, and without a website, it's harder to plan ahead. Overall, though, I'd say it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening; it's got that heartwarming local charm that keeps you coming back, and with a solid 4.5 rating, it's clear folks are enjoying their time there. If you're in the area, give it a go – you might just find your new favourite spot!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The prices are spot on – really affordable and great value for a cheeky drink or two, making it a wallet-friendly spot for a night out.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of gins and whiskies; I heard about the Hendricks Flora Adora and Neptune gin, which sound delightful, and the whisky options are apparently huge.
  • The atmosphere is lovely and cosy, with friendly staff and welcoming locals who make you feel right at home from the get-go.
  • It's dog-friendly with a nice beer garden, perfect for a relaxed afternoon stroll and a pint without leaving your furry friend behind.
  • Being a local gem, it's easy to pop in after a walk, and it's all about supporting the community, which gives it that warm, neighbourhood vibe.
Cons
  • It's a bit on the small side, so it can get cosy to the point of feeling a tad cramped when it's busy, which might not suit everyone.
  • The ale selection isn't the biggest, so if you're after a wide variety of beers, you might find it a little limited compared to other places.
  • The operating hours seem a bit mixed up in the listings, which could leave you scratching your head about when it's actually open.
  • No website means it's trickier to check out menus or events in advance – you'd have to just turn up and see what's on offer.

After a lovely walk today decided to pop in here for an afternoon refreshment. Was really surprised. Nice beer garden Dog friendly so that was a bonus as this is hard to find in Cumbernauld within walking distance from where we live in Kildrum area. We were asked to leave Dove Cote beer garden no dogs allowed. Probably done as a favour or we might have not thought about trying this wee gem Location brilliant after nice walk. Staff so friendly. Will definitely be back.

First time in this bar, was welcomed with a friendly lady behind the bar ( Sharon). Has a lovely cosy feel about the place. Great selection of drinks behind the bar. Especially whiskey. Prices are cheaper than the other bar up the road. Even the locals welcomed us. Would definitely recommend .
