About This Pub

Ah, The Carrick Stone in Cumbernauld – it's one of those Wetherspoon spots that feels like a reliable old mate for a quick bite or a casual catch-up, especially if you're watching the pennies. From what I've gathered from the chats online, it's got its strengths, like those tasty haddock and chips that seem to win people over, and you'll find some staff who are absolute gems, making you feel right at home with their friendly vibes. On the brighter side, the prices are spot on for everyday enjoyment, which is why it's a go-to for many. But let's be honest, it's not all roses; there are tales of things not being as clean as they'd ought to be, with grubby glasses and plates that could put you off, and service that sometimes falls flat with staff who might not be as welcoming as you'd hope. Plus, if you're someone who likes to bring along a furry friend, their strict rules might leave you a bit miffed. All in all, it's worth swinging by if you're in the area and fancy a no-fuss pint, but maybe keep an eye out and go in with a balanced view – the good bits make it charming, while the rough edges keep it real.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that classic Wetherspoon affordability, making it a brilliant spot for a budget-friendly pint or meal without breaking the bank.
  • Some of the food hits the mark, like the haddock and chips, which folks rave about as being spot on and satisfying.
  • Certain staff members provide top-notch service, going above and beyond to make your visit enjoyable, as shared by a few happy visitors.
Cons
  • Hygiene can be a real letdown, with complaints about dirty plates, cutlery, and even grubby pint glasses that put a damper on the experience.
  • Service isn't always up to scratch, as some staff come across as disrespectful or unwelcoming, leading to disappointing interactions.
  • Drinks might not live up to expectations, with reports of them being watered down, and there's a strict no-dogs policy that could frustrate pet owners looking for a relaxed outdoor spot.

Abomination of an experience. Every drink is completely watered down. Absolutely no hygiene . Nothing is clean ,plates ,cutlery. Even pint glasses are filthy. Staff are disrespectful and not welcoming. Over all horrible drinks. Horrible food and the staff are maybe the worst I've experienced. .

I visited with my daughter and grandchildren, we have been many times. On this occasion we were bitterly disappointed not only with the food but also the service of the young female staff member. She looked to be in her early 20s with long auburn hair, tied up in a pony tail. My grandson wanted a boneless basket, to which the staff member replied they don't do that anymore. My grandson then asked for nuggets, again we were told they don't do that either. She proceeded to say they haven't done these in a long time. My daughter asked why is it still on the menu then? The reply we got was very abrupt and disrectful. I understand that sometimes things happen outwith the control of the restaurant, however, if this has been like this for a long period then surely the menu should be updated to reflect this. Not a great image for a supposed family friendly establishment. On a side note, maybe a refresher course on customer service is in order. I would definitely not recommend this weatherspoons for food.

I went I to the bar upstairs as they have an outside sitting area . I had the smallest dog you can get with me. All I wanted was to sit down for a moment with a nice coffee outside and not in the premises. Was immediately told NO DOGS ON THE PREMISEs. I think they should get with the times . I wasn’t even two mins in the place. . Did not even give me a chance to explain. Do not go. War if you want a sit down with a cider outside. The magpies had a better chance 😂 I don’t see the problem sitting outside. Aw well I’m off to Costa

The food was good. The haddock and chips were spot on. Service from Alex was first class. Having been in several Wetherspoons up and down the country, this is by far the oddest. The service was, as I said, first class, but the outside area and the staircase did not have the lavishness of other Wetherspoons. The bull we found out was there because the Carrick Stone which has a lot of historical worth is situated near to a farm, hence a bull. Not sure if the local chap who told us that was pulling my leg or not.
