About This Pub
Ah, The Spread Eagle – it's such a hidden gem in London, isn't it? From what I've gathered from folks who've popped in, it's all about that quintessentially British pub feel, but with a brilliant vegan twist that makes it stand out. The food's a real highlight; they've nailed those pub classics like pies and burgers, all made with seasonal, sustainable ingredients that taste spot on, and it's lovely to see options for gluten-free eaters too. The atmosphere is just right – think cosy corners, a cracking garden for sunnier days, and even a pool table to liven things up, plus it's super family-friendly and dog-welcome, which adds to the charm. Staff are always up for a chat and make you feel right at home, whether you're there for a quiet read with a glass of wine or a lively Friday night. On the downside, a few have mentioned the chips not quite hitting the mark, being a bit limp, and if you're not keen on vegan fare, you might find the menu a tad limiting. The decor could use a freshen-up in places too, as it feels a smidge worn. All in all, though, it's a top spot for anyone wanting a sustainable pint and a bite in a welcoming setting – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
-
The vegan food is absolutely delicious, with pub classics like pies and roasts that are full of flavour and even have gluten-free options to suit all sorts.
-
It's got a warm, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed evening, complete with a lovely garden and a pool table for some fun.
-
Being fully sustainable and minimal waste-focused, it's a great spot that welcomes families and dogs, adding to that community feel.
Cons
-
Some dishes can be hit or miss, like the chips that a few have found a bit soggy, which is a shame when the rest is so tasty.
-
As it's entirely vegan, it might not appeal to everyone who fancies traditional meaty pub grub, so it's worth noting if you're not sold on plant-based options.
-
The decor feels a tad dated in spots, which could do with a bit of a spruce-up to match the vibrant vibe.

Such a cute pub, lovely staff and delicious food.
The roast was so delicious and it’s great they had so many gluten free options. Staff were all so friendly, it’s just a really nice vibe. Definitely recommend. Creamy leeks are a must!
Fully vegan pub, specialising in vegan English cuisine. I had the Korean burger, which was decent. The chips were soggy. I probably should have gone with the English food as it's their speciality.
Staff were very friendly and nice.
This is the first pub that I've ever been to in homerton and I absolutely loved the spread eagle. I love the atmosphere in this pub, it's lovely and friendly. You feel like spending your money here.
I had two glasses of red wine and read my lovely book.
This is a vegan pub and apparently the food is amazing. I wasn't particularly hungry but I did see a few people order so the chef must be good.
If you're looking for a no-frills pub in the hackney area, then come to this place, you will not be disappointed 😊
Such a great pub - if it wasn’t vegan I would still really like it as it has such a cool vibe. Great selection of craft beers, garden, a pool table. And of course the vegan food is top notch. The Sunday roasts are amazing.
It's a vegan pub with a lovely atmosphere.
I was part of a large group and we all got served fairly quickly. The garden area is lovely, especially in warm weather. The staff was nice and smiley and there was a good vibe on the Friday karaoke night.
The decor is very nice but you can tell it hasn't been recently refurbished, just as you would expect from your average pub. The music playing was also good and in line with the pub's atmosphere.
The food was varied and interesting although choice was very limited when it came to mains (see website for more details). I had the Beyond beef burger and despite not being vegan, I thoroughly enjoyed it, though the toppings were a bit scarce and the "meat" a bit burnt in places. The fries were tasty and not greasy at all. Shame they ran out of the fried aubergine at 7pm as it looked really good.
Overall, all dishes looked tasty, though I didn't get the chance to try anything else.
