About This Pub
Ah, The Kenton Pub – it's one of those hidden gems in Hackney that really knows how to make a night out memorable. From what I've gathered, the staff go above and beyond to create a welcoming atmosphere, and they're backed up by an impressive drinks menu that's won them some serious accolades, like being a finalist for the best beer pub in Britain. Whether you're sipping on a local ale in the charming beer garden or belting out tunes in the vintage-style karaoke room, it's clear this place excels at bringing people together for good times. It's especially brilliant for catching the big sports matches with all those screens dotted around. That said, it does lean into that trendy Hackney style, which might feel a tad exclusive if you're not in the mood for it, and you could find yourself scrambling for a spot in the garden on peak nights. Overall, it's a solid choice for a fun evening, but it's worth checking the timings first to avoid any surprises – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're up for a bit of everything.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home from the get-go.
-
They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, especially beers, with loads of local brews and even awards for being one of the best in the business.
-
The beer garden is an absolute treat – it's well-designed, mostly covered to keep the rain at bay, and perfect for a relaxed pint outdoors.
-
It's a top spot for fun activities like karaoke in their private room, which is ideal for parties or groups up to 12.
-
Fantastic for watching sports, with multiple screens and coverage of all the major football and rugby events, so you won't miss a thing.
Cons
-
It has that classic Hackney vibe, which can feel a bit hipster-oriented and might not appeal if you're after something more traditional.
-
The beer garden is first come, first served, so it can get competitive for seats, especially on busy evenings.
-
Operating hours seem to vary a bit, which could leave you caught out if you're planning a spontaneous visit.

I wanted to hate this pub because I can’t stand Hackney hipsters, on any level. However I couldn’t fault this pub it was fantastic. The staff were courteous, friendly and really welcoming. There was a great selection on draught, the usual hipster ale stuff, but I went for the Stella. To top it all off they even sell pork scratchings, I’m in love. The only little frustrations was that they do have a Tottenham Hotspur’s kit hanging on the bar and there was a couple of hipsters moaning about the price of beer, boring.
I’ll be back and cannot wait. Nice one guys.
The Kenton is a lovely pub! The staff are very friendly, the atmosphere is great and the beer garden is particularly charming. Held a party here for my boyfriend’s birthday and the staff were incredibly accommodating and helped make it special. Thank you especially to Lily! I was having too much of a good time to take any photos other than of this Guinness tap 🤠 thank you!! Definitely a favourite pub in the area ❤️
A classic corner pub, with a good selection of beers - I had a Siren - and lots of seating both in the main pub and outside in the yard.
Very friendly and helpful staff! I would have happily stayed for a few more if I had not had a booking for dinner nearby; looking forward to visiting again soon.
Absolutely brilliant night for our daughter's surprise 30th Birthday party. This place is the perfect venue to host a party - the karaoke room and the brilliant music in the pub along with the great bar staff and delicious pizza delivery from Yardsale made it a fantastic celebration. A great time was had by all thanks to Egil and all the staff at The Kenton pub.

The Kenton is located close to Well Street Common in Homerton, Hackney, East London. The nearest station Homerton on the Mildmay Line.
This brightly painted pub was built by Sir Benjamin Kenton in 1864 as The Kenton Arms. In 2009, the pub was refurbished, reopened and transformed by Norwegian Guv’nor Egil.
This is a traditionally decorated one bar pub that has an eclectic collection of trinkets, collectibles and keepsakes. The servery is centrally located with the main bar wrapping around it. There are lots of subtle and not so subtle hints to the Guv’nors Scandinavian heritage. To the left of the servery is Odin’s Corner, at the back of the main bar is cosy space called Thor’s Room and how about the huge moose head on the wall which was shot by the Guvnor’s Grandfather. Towards the back of the pub is a covered spot which is a geared up to watch the footy, just to the side is a unique and funky beer garden.
The beer selection is excellent and offers a mix of premium beers, London breweries, cask ales and No & Low options. I kept in local and opted for a pint Pillars Pilsner by E17 brewery @pillarsbrewery , my pint was great, price point was above average. The food offering is @yardsalepizza who will deliver your pizza to the pub.
We arrived just after 2pm on warm overcast Saturday afternoon in August. The pub was fairly quiet with a few local punters dotted about. The atmosphere was relaxed and had a laidback local pub feel. The service was welcoming and personable, the team member who served us was friendly and chatty.
The pub has plenty to keep you entertained, there are DJ and Quiz nights, a Karaoke Room plus Live Premier and Champions League games are shown.
@thekentonpub was a thoroughly enjoyable visit. The smörgåsbord of trinkets adds an element of fun to the decor, the beer choice is diverse and supports London breweries, the service was first class and there is plenty to keep you entertained. This award winning Hackney local is a must visit London Pub.
