About This Pub
Ah, the People's Park Tavern – it's one of those places that just draws you in with its prime spot in Victoria Park, where you can unwind in that massive beer garden or cosy up inside on a chillier day. I love how it captures that true East London spirit, with a laid-back atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with mates over a cold beer or a bite to eat. The food's generally spot on, with options like the fried chicken burger that really hit the mark, and they've got a solid range of drinks to choose from. The team behind the bar are always cheerful and ready to lend a hand, which adds to the homely feel. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides – the prices do add up quickly, and you might find yourself questioning if that small dish was worth it. Plus, on a busy bank holiday, queues can build up if they're short on staff, so it's worth planning ahead. All in all, it's a cracking choice for a sunny afternoon session, as long as you're prepared to splash out a little and avoid peak times for a smoother visit.

-
The food portions might feel a tad small for the cost, especially if you're after good value pub grub.

Tucked away on a quiet corner of the high street, The People’s Tavern offers the kind of charm that’s becoming increasingly rare in modern pubs. With its low-beamed ceilings, crackling fireplace, and warm amber lighting, the atmosphere feels more like a welcoming living room than a commercial venue.
The staff are attentive without hovering, quick with a recommendation, and genuinely seem to enjoy what they do—a refreshing contrast to the robotic service you sometimes get elsewhere.
As for the drinks, the pub boasts an impressive rotation of local ales and craft beers on tap, alongside the usual favorites. I tried the seasonal stout from a nearby brewery, and it was rich, smooth, and perfectly poured. Their gin selection is also worth noting, with a creative mix of botanicals and garnishes that show real thought.
The menu leans toward elevated pub fare—classic dishes done right. The steak and ale pie was a standout: flaky pastry, generous chunks of tender meat, and a rich gravy that could easily stand on its own.
And it succeeds. A must-visit if you value authenticity, quality, and a pint that’s pulled with pride.
Went in on Bank Holiday Monday and was only 2 bar staff on. Had people queuing up to the door, need to get more people on. Food is decent but pretty pricey for what it is.
One of my favourite East London pubs. I’m just disappointed paying £7.5 for such a small bowl of Padron peppers. They taste good, but oh gosh, there’s no way to justify this price :(
PS. Photo is taken after eating a couple of peppers.
Really enjoyable and spacious pub. Good selection of beers and good food. The fried chicken burger was delicious.
Prices are a bit high for pub food, but the atmosphere is delightful - particularly if the weather is sunny!
Outside has a large beer garden and covered “greenhouse” area which remains warmer in the winter. Would recommend a visit!
I love this pub! I always recommend it to friends who are in the area and want a lovely outdoor garden, especially for its access/view to Victoria Park. The staff are always a joy, and the last time I was there Make was gracious enough to charge ans mind my phone for me!
