About This Pub

Ah, The Eagle in Hackney – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot, you know? From the reviews I've seen, it's got this lovely community feel that's hard to come by in the hustle of London these days. Folks rave about the well-priced pints and the friendly faces behind the bar, making it a proper go-to for a relaxed evening. There's a real buzz around the traditional setup, with games like pool and darts adding to the fun, and some solid pub snacks to nibble on while you're catching up with mates. On the flip side, it does seem to wind down a bit early sometimes, so if you're after a late-night session, you might need to adjust your plans. Plus, being in a quieter residential spot means it's not the easiest to stumble upon if you're from further afield, and the lack of a website makes it tricky to get the lowdown beforehand. All in all, it's a gem for a laid-back pint and a chat, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Well-priced pints that make it a refreshing find in pricey London
  • Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere that really makes you feel at home
  • That genuine community vibe, like chatting with locals over a game of pool or darts
  • A traditional old-school setup with good pub snacks to keep things lively
  • Plenty of positive buzz from visitors who call it one of the best spots in the area
Cons
  • It might close a bit early in the evenings, so plan your night accordingly
  • No website to easily check the latest details or menu, which can be a hassle
  • Tucked away in a residential part of Hackney, it could feel a tad out of the way if you're not local

Great local pub! Is rare to find well priced pints and excellent service these days in London. Refreshing to find friendly staff, good atmosphere and a great all round pub in London. One of, if not the best pubs in London.

Great local pub. It's such a rarity in London to find a locally run pub with a real community feel.

An old school pub with a group of locals/regulars providing a good backdrop of atmosphere. The bar person was friendly and welcoming and the beer and prices were good. There’s also a pool table and dart board, and good pub snacks. Recommend - best pub in the area for me

🚇 Homerton 🍺 £4.80 Amstel The Eagle is located in a residential area of Homerton in Hackney, just north of Victoria Park. The nearest station is Homerton overground. This pub was originally built in 1872. The pub you see today was built in the 1930s for Watney Combe Reid. This is a traditionally decorated pub that has two adjoining bars around a horseshoe shaped servery. The decor is a mix of exposed brick chimney breasts, colourful eagle wallpaper and blue half-height wall panelling. There is plenty of seating in the firm of banquettes, comfy chairs and stools around the bar. The pub has a pool table, a dartboard, a jukebox and a few TV’s, at the back of the pub is a covered smoking area with an old Guinness sign. One nice touch was a wall covered in Kilkenny Hurling memorabilia dedicated to the former Irish Landlord. The beer lineup is a straightforward selection of familiar keg favourites. I decided on a pint of Amstel, my pint was great, price point was reasonable at under a fiver. All other beers were also under a fiver with the exception of Neck Oil. This is a wed-led pub that doesn’t serve food. We arrived around 11.30am on a warm Saturday morning in August. As you can imagine, the pub was quiet, there was one other local punter in attendance. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed with chart pop and rock classics playing in the background. The service was excellent, we were served by a lovely Irish Lady who made us feel right at home. The Eagle is a quintessential backstreet locals boozer that has rejuvenated itself up to secure its future. I loved the local feel to the pub and the warm hospitality. The beer prices are reasonable and the setting relaxed. We loved it here, I would definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 31.08.24

Amazing, genuine, proper local. Such welcoming regulars who are happy to have my girlfriend and I join in a game of pool or darts. The real deal. ( Just don't tell any of the hipster zombies. )
