About This Pub

Ah, The Spey Lounge on Leith Walk – it's one of those pubs that sparks a proper chat among us lot, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, unpretentious feel that some people absolutely adore; imagine settling in for a pint in a place oozing with history and that classic bohemian vibe, where the locals make it feel like your own backyard. The prices are spot on for a casual night out, keeping things accessible without any fuss. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all rosy – there are tales of some dodgy goings-on, like incidents that make you question the safety, and a few gripes about the place not being as clean as it should be, which is a shame because it could really shine otherwise. Overall, if you're up for a bit of rough-and-ready charm and don't mind overlooking the odd flaw, it might be worth a visit, but I'd say keep your wits about you and go with mates for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that authentic local pub charm, full of character and a real sense of history that draws in the regulars.
  • Some folks absolutely rave about it as their go-to spot, with one chap calling it a 'bohemian institute' that's just brimming with spirit.
  • Being inexpensive, it's a wallet-friendly choice for grabbing a pint without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • There have been some unsettling reports of harassment and unsafe vibes, which really puts a damper on things and makes you think twice about recommending it.
  • Hygiene can be a problem, like dodgy toilets that haven't been looked after properly, as shared in a few grim experiences.
  • Staff aren't always on top form, with stories of them being unhelpful or dismissive when issues crop up.

My own local pub! Love the place

They were nice to me and my friend, if completely hammered. Reading the negative reviews, I can say all of them are plausible if not probable. Wouldn't necessarily recommend unless you want a bit of off-color entertainment.

No one said a word, the staff nor clients, when an older man started touching me from behind, as soon as I came in and stopped at the counter. Thankfully before I had a chance to order, so I could turn around and leave right away. During a very quiet night, so no chance that they couldn't notice. Shame on you. Avoid the dodgy place at all cost.

The Spey Lounge, Where do I begin... A pub of untold Character, unfiltered spirit and a place that oozes legacy from first Glance to the last drop of your pint. I am fortunate enough to overlook this fine establishment.. No.. Bohemian institute.. would be better words. Drawing in crowds from far and wide ... but mainly locals. The wind carries the whispers and chants from the 24/7 Karaoke machine... as Legend goes it has yet to be turned off since its purchase in the late 90's with Disco light machine in tow. Depending on your fortune, if the planets align just right you may witness a spectacle of nature. Survival. Man vs Man, the ultimate duel. The nightly mating rituals begin from midnight into the early hours of the morning requiring the males to display dominance in any way possible. From who can hold the most swally to a barbaric fist fight. A true glimpse into the mindset of a Spey-Walker.

Absolutely Terrible! I went here as I was informed it had Karaoke on a Sat night. The place is minging! I went to the toilet and there was no toilet roll and there was faeces on the floor. I asked the bar staff to have a look at the toilets and they said 'not paid' to do that! I was informed they have a morning cleaner only. Well, excuse me! If the pub are open all day with people using the facilities then someone should be checking the toilets on a regular basis! I will not enter the place ever again! It ruined my night out.
