About This Pub
Ah, The Marksman in Leith – it's one of those pubs that really pulls at the heartstrings with its genuine, down-to-earth charm. From what I've gathered, the staff are absolute stars; they've been known to help out in a pinch, like sorting a lost wallet or even lending a hand when someone's car plays up. It's got that lovely community buzz, perfect if you're up for mingling with artists or just grabbing an affordable pint with mates. The early openings are a nice touch too, for those spontaneous moments. On the downside, though, the jukebox can crank up the volume to ear-splitting levels, which might spoil a good catch-up. And let's be honest, the place could use a bit of TLC – it's feeling a wee bit worn around the edges. All in all, it's a solid spot for a relaxed evening if you don't mind overlooking the rough patches, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea for a quiet night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful – they'll go out of their way to assist, like returning a lost wallet with everything intact.
-
It's a welcoming community spot, especially for chatting with locals and artists, giving it that cosy, neighbourhood vibe.
-
They pour a decent pint, and it's affordable, making it a great choice for a casual drink without breaking the bank.
-
The pub has a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere, even open early for those unexpected early-morning tipples.
Cons
-
The jukebox music can be overwhelmingly loud, making it tough to have a proper chat or enjoy a quiet pint.
-
The place feels a bit dated and could do with a freshen-up; it's not the most inviting decor-wise.
-
The operating hours listed seem a tad confusing, which might leave you guessing about when it's best to drop in.

Hadn't been here for a number of years. Went in for a pint and intended to have a few more, but I couldn't hear myself think for the blaring music from the jukebox. The barmaid put up a decent enough pint, but the whole place needs a makeover. There is a sign prominently displayed behind the bar saying ''No Riff-Raff please' which is not being observed judging by the customer base present on this occasion. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I don't think so.
Someone dropped my wallet off in the Marksman after I lost it. There was cash in it and all my cards. The staff posted it on a local Facebook page and I went to collect. All the cash was still there and all my cards. The barman was really friendly and refused to accept the cash as a thanks, instead insisting that I spend it on my kids.
Thanks!
Friendly little pub just off Leith Walk - great place to meet artists!
Car broke down outside this pub today... My 22nd wedding anniversary and I thought i was really stuffed! Got car fixed and carried on my way and had a good night thanks to punters and bar staff helping get car fixed and on the go again. 5 stars not enough...
Thank you for making me welcome. That 6:30am single malt was smoother than Barry White 🥃
And thank you Smudge for inviting me.
