About This Pub

Ah, The Lioness of Leith – it's one of those places that just draws you in with its charm in the heart of Edinburgh. I have to say, the burgers are a real standout; they're made with award-winning local beef and come piled high with fresh toppings, leaving you feeling properly satisfied. Pair that with a cracking atmosphere that's full of energy and friendly faces, and you've got a spot that's perfect for catching up with mates over a well-crafted cocktail or a glass of wine. They've even got thoughtful options for vegetarians and vegans, which makes it easy to please everyone in the group. On the downside, though, it does lean towards the expensive side, so it might not be your go-to for a quick, budget-friendly pint. The lighting's a bit dim too, which can make the place feel cosy but might leave you squinting at your plate. And while the main dishes shine, some of the sides haven't quite impressed me – think average chips that don't match the hype. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're up for a good feed and a laugh, but keep those little niggles in mind for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The burgers are absolutely top-notch, with fresh, locally sourced beef that really hits the spot – perfect for a hearty meal.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel welcome, adding a warm touch to your visit.
  • A great selection of drinks, including inventive cocktails and alcohol-free options, all with a focus on quality and local sourcing.
  • They've got something for everyone, with solid choices for vegetarians and vegans, which is brilliant for group outings.
  • The atmosphere is lively and fun, especially with events like cheese and wine nights that keep things exciting.
Cons
  • It can get a bit pricey, making it feel like a splurge for what might be a casual bite.
  • The interior is quite dark, which might not be ideal if you're after a brighter, more cheerful setting.
  • Some of the sides, like chips or mac 'n' cheese, have been a tad underwhelming and don't always live up to the main dishes.
  • It tends to get busy, so you might end up waiting a while for your food, which can be frustrating on a tight schedule.

Absolutely amazing burgers. Great food, good choice of beer on tap and great atmosphere. Busy at dinner. Don't be in a rush. The food is worth it. We are from Texas and the beef on the burgers was top notch. The chicken on the nachos was great as well. Thanks for a great meal.

The burger was bigger than what I thought, but still a bit pricey tough. A simple burger is enough. The place is nice but quite dark.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. The homemade hamburger was exceptional. Clearly a lot of effort to make the burger itself and all the toppings nice and fresh and crunchy. Very good value before 4pm as included free fries. Best burger I’ve had in a long time. Team are friendly too. Good job.

Casual setting combined with fun atmosphere and excellent burgers. The staff are fun and engaging, the music is an eclectic and fun mix and the topping choices on the burgers... Well they're fun too. (Mac & cheese on a burger, for instance). For a casual (yes, and fun) spot for a meal or a drink. Give it a go.

The food was a little hit or miss but service was excellent. I had The Future burger, which was decent if unspectacular. I meat was tasty enough and the bacon crisp as promised but the chips were pretty average and my partner's Mac 'n' cheese was pretty dry and disappointing. Nice atmosphere inside and it's close to the Foot of The Walk tram stop
