About This Pub
Ah, The Tam 'O' Shanter in Edinburgh – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that can really hit the spot for a relaxed evening, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the chats online, the staff are absolute gems, always up for a laugh and getting involved in the fun, like during their karaoke nights where everyone's joining in and having a blast. The jukebox is a proper treat too, spinning tunes that get the group going, and it's brilliant that they open early if you're fancying a quiet morning pint. But, and I say this with a bit of caution, there have been a few tales of unpleasant run-ins with some of the crowd, including one shocking account where things turned nasty and the response from behind the bar wasn't up to scratch – that's a real shame and something to keep in mind if you're heading out with mates. Overall, with a solid 3.9 rating, it's worth a visit for the good times, but maybe go with a group and keep an eye out to ensure it's a pleasant one.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff and DJ are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home, especially during events like karaoke nights.
-
It's got a great atmosphere for a casual get-together, with a good jukebox and plenty of banter that keeps things lively.
-
They open early, around 7 or 8 in the morning, which is perfect if you're an early riser looking for a spot to start your day with a drink.
-
The pub seems to have sorted out any past issues with facilities, so it's now a more comfortable place to pop in for a pint.
Cons
-
There have been some worrying reports of aggressive behaviour from other visitors, including incidents that weren't handled well by the staff, which could make some feel unsafe.
-
It attracts early drinkers, which might not suit everyone and could lead to a rowdier crowd at times.
-
With only a handful of recent reviews and an unclaimed online presence, it feels a bit overlooked, so you might not get the full picture before visiting.

Early drinkers welcomed as I see every day people drinking around 8.30am, yes that early.
Never been before quiet pub good duke box hence great night had by all in our group
Toilets have been sorted I believe and all staff have changed shifts so Wednesdays and Thursdays during the day great and a little girl on at nights brilliant, great for the banter.
Patrons attacked me for no reason, they had merely randomly decided I was gay and became extremely threatening and homophobic. They accosted me whilst I was trying to use the baththroom. I asked the guy to leave me alone, barmaid supported his behaviour and forced me out and said I couldn't use the bathroom because what? One of their patrons assualted me? Not only disgusting but illegal.
